This 1987 BMW 325is is a remarkable find for the E30 enthusiast,
showing just 60,000 original miles. Finished in the iconic Cinnabar
Red (138) over a Black leather interior, this car was long-term
owned by the seller's late relative before being inherited
recently. It represents the "is" trim at its best, featuring the
2.5-liter M20 inline-six and a suite of factory performance
upgrades. This is a clean-titled, accident-free (per Carfax)
example that offers a rare opportunity to own a low-mileage
survivor of one of BMW's most legendary driver's cars.
1987 BMW 325is
According to the BMW Customer Relations correspondence, the
following equipment was fitted at the factory:
Differential lock
BMW LA wheels (chrome-plated/round spoke)
Rear spoiler
Electric sunroof (lift-up-and-slide-back)
Electric front window lifts
Sports seats
Air conditioning
Cruise control
On-board computer II with remote control
Sound System
M Sports suspension
M sports leather steering wheel
Exterior
The body is finished in striking Cinnabar Red. While it shows the
honest character of an unrestored car, the paint remains incredibly
bright. Notable exterior features include yellow-tinted fog lights,
a factory decklid spoiler, a sunroof, and tinted windows. The car
sits on classic 14? silver bottle cap alloy wheels. We have
recently installed essentially brand new tires with less than 500
miles on them. Please note the front "cow catcher" spoiler has been
removed. While there is some cosmetic surface corrosion on
underside components typical for the age, the chassis is solid with
no rust-through.
Interior
Inside, the cabin is exceptionally well-preserved, featuring
bolstered front sport seats upholstered in black leather. The
interior is rounded out by an M Tech I steering wheel, original
onboard computer, and a cassette stereo with a trunk-mounted CD
changer. The Air Conditioning blows ice cold and remains on the
original R12 system. All windows, the sunroof, and the dash
gauges-including the odometer-function exactly as they should.
While there is some minor wear on the seat bolsters consistent with
age, the interior reflects a car that was truly "loved".
Underhood & Underbody
The 2.5-liter M20 inline-six was factory rated at 168 horsepower
and runs beautifully. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a
four-speed automatic transmission. This 325is came from the factory
with a sport-tuned suspension and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.
CRITICAL MAINTENANCE UPDATE: We have just performed a fresh timing
belt service, addressing the primary maintenance concern for this
M20 engine and giving the next owner total peace of mind. While the
engine bay would benefit from a light detail, the mechanical
integrity is now top-tier.
Driving
This E30 is an absolute joy on the road. It starts, shifts, and
tracks exactly as you would expect from a 60k-mile BMW. It feels
tight, planted, and confident. The sport suspension provides that
communicative handling that made the E30 famous, while the M20
engine pulls smooth and strong. With the timing belt service now
complete, this is a "get in and drive" example that is ready for
its next enthusiast owner.
Conclusion
Finding an E30 325is with miles this low is becoming a rare event.
With its desirable Cinnabar Red over Black color combination,
accident-free history, and its most vital engine service just
completed, this car is a prime candidate for a collection or a
weekend cruiser. We've been transparent about the cosmetic engine
bay and the legacy of the previous ownership, but the car speaks
for itself on the road. Please note: We only have what is seen in
the photos and video; we encourage you to review the documentation
and condition shots to appreciate the originality of this BMW.
