1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT in Amelia Island, Florida

Spurred by the 1963 integration of Autodelta S.p.A. as Alfa Romeo's in-house competition arm under then President Giuseppe Luraghi, the marque channeled its racing innovations directly into its road-going models. Launched in September 1963, the 105-series Giulia distinguished itself from the outgoing 101-series Giulietta with a 1,570-cc engine offering greater power and refinement, backed by a five-speed transmission, independent front suspension, coil-sprung live rear axle, and on later cars, four-wheel disc brakes. The coupe interpretation-Giugiaro's clean, four-seat Sprint GT of 1963-matched the underpinnings to timeless Bertone styling, its 105 horsepower enabling a claimed 112-mph top speed.

This attractive Giulia Sprint GT was sold new in Vancouver and reportedly underwent a mechanical refurbishment and repaint in the 1990s before being relocated to the United States. It subsequently spent time in California and was brought to Texas in 2018. Under that ownership, the twin-cam inline-four was reportedly overbored and rebuilt to 1.7 liters using a kit from Spruell Motorsport with 10.5:1 pistons and European-spec 10548 camshafts, with machining and refurbishment of the cylinder head and crankshaft, plus a 123Ignition electronic distributor and refreshed Weber DCOE carburetors. The five-speed was also overhauled with later-model synchros and shorter shift forks, and the car was serviced with fresh plugs, a fuel filter, and an oil change in 2024.

Presented in red over gray vinyl complemented by its distinctive "stepnose" front end, wrap-around bumpers, and 14-inch GTA-style alloys, it remains a wonderfully engaging Bertone-styled coupe.
