While the Chevelle name has been long gone from Chevy's showroom
for decades, its legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of muscle
car enthusiasts everywhere. One look at this 1970 Chevrolet
Chevelle LS3 Restomod, and it's easy to see why this car has been
so lusted after. Fully repainted in a beautiful gloss-black finish,
complete with dual full-length racing stripes, this Chevelle
showcases its classic lines while not-so-subtly hinting at its
modern technology with its aggressive stance and huge Ridler
wheels.
Inside, we find an incredibly inviting and customized interior. The
storage/armrest center console features a single cupholder,
separating a pair of plush, supportive bucket seats that have been
reupholstered with red contrast stitching. A chrome-and-padded,
power-assisted Billet Specialties wheel sits ahead of a seven-pod
gauge cluster, featuring a 7,000-rpm tachometer and a 120-mph
speedometer. Power windows and locks, along with a Pioneer
touchscreen AM/FM head unit that offers satellite and Bluetooth
connectivity, make this restomod far more fun to drive than when it
rolled off the assembly line.
Under that expansive hood, we find a late-model 6.2-liter overhead
valve LS3 V-8 engine. With a lightweight aluminum block and heads,
sequential-port fuel injection, a composite intake manifold, and
high-flow injectors, this Gen IV small-block is capable of
producing at least 426 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.
Tack on heat-wrapped Doug's long-tube headers and a three-inch
X-pipe dual exhaust, and those numbers are undoubtedly a bit
higher. That output is funneled through a tried-and-true Tremec TKO
five-speed manual transmission before heading to the 3.73-geared
Richmond 12-bolt rear end, which transfers power to the pavement
via a set of big 20-inch Ridler wheels shod in 295/30R-20 Toyo
low-profile rubber. At the same time, a narrower set of 235/40R-18
Toyo tires handles steering duties up front.
