Here's a wild truck for those who like to preserve the past, but
don't quite want to live in it. This 1956 Chevrolet Apache LS
Restomod looks like it's been through many hard years of living and
couldn't even run you around the farm, let alone cruise the
highway. But looks are deceiving, and the Patina finish makes that
deception work. Sure, the body is rough, but it's actually quite
solid. The front grille and bumpers are in good shape, and so is
the wooden bed.
Sitting on a Crown Victoria chassis, this Apache blends vintage
grit with real-world drivability. It rides on 16-inch powder-coated
white steel wheels and packs the upgrades needed to make this
former farmhand as safe and usable as any modern truck.
Inside is where things get interesting. The cabin is an eclectic
mix of character and comfort. White painted door panels with black
inserts meet a brown leather 60/40 split bench. Wooden floors
trimmed in black metal add custom flair, while the fully painted
Turquoise-and-White dash steals the show. A black-and-white custom
steering wheel sits ahead of a full Intellitronix digital gauge
cluster. Vintage Air climate control keeps things comfortable, and
a Power Acoustic touchscreen AM/FM/Aux Bluetooth stereo is neatly
mounted between air custom vents. The long chrome shifter is easy
to grab, and somehow all the "wild" works together to create a
seriously fun driving experience.
Under the hood sits a 5.3-liter LS engine topped with a custom
copper-and-leather engine cover. An aluminum radiator with an
electric fan keeps it cool. Power is routed to a rebuilt 4L80E
4-speed automatic, through a new driveshaft, and into an 8.8-inch
rear axle.
The truck has been lowered for a confident stance. Up front:
control arms, coil springs, tube shocks, and sway bar. Out back: a
Watts link setup with coil springs and tube shocks. Rack-and-pinion
steering sharpens control, while four-wheel anti-lock power disc
brakes provide confident stopping. Polished headers and dual
exhaust with an aftermarket muffler give it the right tone.
