"Chevy II makes economy exciting with its own unique brand of
thrifty going and top performance. You'll like the way Chevy II
saves on maintenance with many now money saving features for '63!
And just wait 'til you put it through its paces. Chevy II steps
lively, thanks to an engine choice that includes a peppy 120hp
six." From the 1963 sale brochure.
For consignment, a 1963 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova 2 door sedan with
unknown miles due to a title exemption and inoperable odometer. The
peppy 120 horsepower six cylinder this car came with is long gone
and, in its place, an LS powerplant! Put forth your best speed
reading skills, this car will not last long.
Exterior
Some objectively fine choices were made on this build with Charcoal
Gray Metallic on every panel that faces the sky and Silver Metallic
on the sides. That alone makes it nice but the red spear on the
side delineating the contrast and 18-inch argent colored Vision
wheels put icing on this special cake. Those wheels are wrapped in
245/40/ZR18's with a mid 2019 date code and the car's stance is low
over the meats. A red stripe encircles the rear fascia and the 5.7
LS1 emblem looks right at home, reappearing on the black grille up
front. Overall, metalwork, body and paint are in great shape.
Imperfections include paint chips and some are touched up, evident
filler at a wheel opening, minor scratches and blistering.
Interior
The interior presents just the right combination of stock and
modern, beginning with the door panels in black vinyl that are
right out of 1963 in their simplicity and clean appearance. From
there, low back bucket seats flank a center console with modern day
cupholders and along with the grain patterned vinyl of the rear
bench, show in excellent condition. A billet style steering wheel
fronts the electronic gauge pod that displays orange digits and
smooth, clean surfaces surround it, taking in an AM/FM radio and
silver knobs along the way. Clean lines also occupy the center
console where a chrome shifter resides, all over black looped
carpet under a black stitched headliner that is tight. Carpet is
fitted in the trunk over an insulator pad and clean, stamped steel
and houses a spare Vision wheel and the battery.
Drivetrain
Red Corvette covers pop as you open the hood to reveal the 5.7
liter LS1 V8, fuel injected and rated at 345 horsepower. It's mated
to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission routing power to the Ford
9" in back. The bay is spotless and the body matched inner fender
wells provide a clean finish. Headers are on board along with power
steering and air conditioning.
Undercarriage
As clean as you might expect underneath, but surprises await with
the exhaust cutout supplied on the dual exhaust before they enter
stainless steel mufflers and pipes that offer an alternative exit
behind each rear wheel. Wilwood disc brakes are utilized front and
rear for the task of stopping. Meanwhile, suspension consists of
coil springs up front and mono leafs in back.
Drive-Ability
We couldn't wait to hop in this stout beauty and crossed our
fingers for performance that would match the looks, and we were not
disappointed. The car has enormous power, tracks straight, and
handles nicely around turns. All functions including electrical,
braking, and A/C all work as they should save for the
aforementioned odometer, and we scoot this looker back to the mall.
While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Our Spidey senses are definitely tingling on this one, meaning it's
the ideal build for many, many people and so we'll keep our closing
thoughts short so you can move forward on this well sorted turnkey
show car! On your mark, get set...
