Developed as a road-going distillation of Maranello's one-make
Ferrari Challenge race program, the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
effectively "Enzo-ized the 360" in the words of Road & Track
magazine. The nose and side sills were reshaped, the rear spoiler
and underbody aero were reworked, and the ride height was lowered
by 0.6 inches, with a stiffer suspension and 19-inch wheels to
match. Carbon fiber trim and seat shells, lighter glass, and
Enzo-derived carbon-ceramic brakes helped pare approximately 242
pounds versus a standard Modena, while the mid-mounted V8 and F1
gearbox delivered an additional 25 horsepower for a total output of
420 horsepower. Through its distinctive bi-modal exhaust system,
the naturally aspirated engine unleashed a brutal howl that left no
doubt-this was no ordinary 360. For many enthusiasts, the Stradale
was and continues to remain the holy grail of 2000s sports
cars.
This fine example of a Challenge Stradale was completed in popular
Rosso Scuderia with an understated "no stripe" finish over a Nero
(Black) leather interior and was one of approximately 378 examples
destined for the United States. Extensively optioned from the
factory, chassis number 139666 received yellow brake calipers, a
leather-trimmed dashboard, headliner, rear shelf and door moldings,
a distinctive yellow leather-trimmed steering wheel, plus all
stitching in yellow. Further cabin appointments included pre-wiring
for the battery charger and a handy fire extinguisher, along with
later-added European-specification four-point safety harnesses. The
original window sticker notes that the 360 was sold new through
Cauley Ferrari in Detroit, Michigan, where it was purchased by its
first and sole private owner since new in the summer of 2005.
The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report indicates that
the Ferrari has remained with its original owner in Connecticut,
benefiting from regular maintenance over the years. Now offered
with just over 3,800 original miles from new, chassis 139666
represents a collector-grade example of the Challenge Stradale-an
ideal expression of the model, which has only continued to grow in
appreciation among knowledgeable Ferrari collectors. Further
complementing its presentation is an array of original accessories
stowed in the front luggage compartment, including the car cover,
tire inflator, and the tool kit and jack housed in their Schedoni
leather cases.
Fresh from a recent service at Miller Motorcars Ferrari, this is an
exceptionally well-kept example of a spectacular driver's car and a
bona fide modern classic.
