This is the car that started it all. A 1965 Pontiac GTO, still
officially a $295 option on the Tempest LeMans, but widely
recognized as the machine that ignited the muscle car revolution.
Crisply redesigned for 1965 with vertically stacked headlights, a
split recessed grille, and a single hood scoop, the GTO's styling
perfectly matched its street-dominating performance.
Finished in rare and desirable Mayfair Maize over a Gold interior,
this 2-door Hardtop Coupe is a beautifully preserved and highly
documented example. It is PHS documented and retains its original
window sticker, confirming its factory configuration.
Under the hood sits the legendary 389 cubic-inch V8 with Tri-Power
(3x2-barrel carburetors), factory rated at 360 horsepower. The
engine is paired with a wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission,
putting full control in the driver's hands. Power is delivered
through a 3.55 Posi-traction rear end, giving the car strong
acceleration and excellent drivability.
All three original carburetors have been professionally rebuilt and
are original to the car, and an additional extra set of carbs is
included. All fluids have been recently changed, and the car runs
strong and smooth. It is believed to have received a repaint in
approximately 1974/1975, presenting today with classic character
and proper vintage appeal.
Inside, the GTO features the iconic four-pod dashboard design,
bucket seats with center console, and desirable factory options
including AM/FM radio, rear seat speaker, back-up lamps, power
brakes, seat belts, and rear window defrost. The 1965 interior
layout remains one of the most recognizable of the muscle era, with
driver-focused instrumentation and unmistakable Pontiac
styling.
The 1965 GTO represents the sweet spot of early muscle - clean
design, raw 389 power, and true factory documentation. With PHS
paperwork, original window sticker, Tri-Power induction, and
4-speed transmission, this is the configuration enthusiasts and
collectors seek.
