Classic convertibles just don't get much cooler than this! Dressed
in factory colors both inside and out and powered by a sizable
engine that underscores the "big" in big block, this 1974 Cadillac
Eldorado Convertible is one of those timeless rides you just can't
help but stare at. Its Antigua Blue Poly paint has a nice, deep
shine and the entire exterior is free of any dents or major
blemishes that would detract from its outstanding visual impact.
With its lengthy wheelbase and timeless style, this droptop started
life off on third base, and with its premium, "triple blue"
configuration and solid running condition, it remains very much at
the top of its game.
While the blue leather upholstery may show signs of wear, it's far
less than you'd rightfully expect in an open-air cruiser that has
likely spent a good portion of time with the top down, especially
considering this interior may well have been on board from the
start. Owing to this Eldorado's substantial dimensions, there's all
kinds of room inside the doors and the power front seat will
position you just where you want to be for maximum comfort. The
dash area has come through the decades in strong fashion, with an
assembly of factory gauges still residing in its instrument cluster
and a factory-style AM/FM radio at its center that still works on
command. As a top tier representative of a brand known for its
comfort, there are plenty of power features onboard, including
power windows, door locks and cruise control and they're in good
working order, as well.
The engine compartment on this Caddy is sizable, but the
500-cubic-inch V8 that lurks beneath the hood does a nice job of
filling it up, while still leaving plenty of working room for
maintenance. Fed by a stock-style 4-barrel carburetor, the engine
is in fine form, starting up promptly, idling smoothly and pulling
with enthusiasm as the accompanying 3-speed automatic THM400
transmission runs through its gears with no issues. In fact, the
driving manners on this Eldorado are pretty impressive on the
whole. It tracks arrow straight, maneuvers easily via its power
steering and comes to a stop with minimal effort, thanks to power
brakes that feature discs up front. A glance below will reassure
you that this 50-year-old-plus cruiser is structurally sound and
ready to roll.
