Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1962 Chevrolet Corvair
Monza Convertible. Finished in red over red with a black
convertible top, this is a nicely restored example believed to have
had only three owners since new. Restored in the early 1990s,
garage kept and driven sparingly since (this car still feels very
fresh - we did a double-take when reviewing the records and photos
when we learned it was restored 30 years ago). Show-quality paint
and body with excellent chrome, trim, lenses and glass. Interior
likewise was retrimmed with correct materials and is showing
virtually no wear. The steering wheel and dash pad are original and
show light patina (a new-in-box dash pad is included with the
sale).
Power comes from a 2.4 liter air-cooled flat six mated to a
four-speed manual transmission. The engine was fully rebuilt with
the car was restored; it starts easily and this Corvair runs and
drives very well (indeed, we drove it on I-95 from its home in an
airport hangar about 45 minutes southeast of Savannah, plus another
20 miles or so around town for its photos and video, and it has
performed flawlessly for us).
Sold new in Missouri where it remained under single-family
ownership until a sale after its restoration to a buyer in Virginia
in 1994. The third and present Georgia owner acquired the car three
years ago. In this Internet-driven era it's charming to see stacks
of handwritten orders and dot-matrix printed invoices from Clark's
Corvair. Included with the sale are boxes of original parts,
spares, an original jack, and a new dash pad, plus original sales
literature, owner's books, an assembly manual, a photo album
documenting the restoration, and lots of records.
Rarely have we seen a Corvair so nicely done and so well sorted.
