Not many pickups, or any other vehicles for that matter, are
cruising the streets nearly 30 years after they emerged from the
assembly line with the vital appearance and solid running condition
of this 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie SLT 4x4. Dressed in black paint
and sporting a tastefully elevated stance that comes via its added
Rough Country lift kit, this is one sharp-looking truck. Rolling on
a set of beefy Hankook tires mounted on clean 17" wheels that are
part and parcel with its upper-tier Laramie SLT designation, this
Dodge is ready for action, whether that entails escorting you
around town in vintage style or more rugged pursuits off the
asphalt. Its rear trailer hitch is wired and ready to haul and the
spray-in liner will protect the rear bed from any unintended scuffs
and scratches.
The camel vinyl interior looks well-preserved for a truck from this
era, and its factory configuration is still intact. The split-bench
seat at its center was likely refurbished not long ago, judging
from its fresh appearance, and the carpeting below was also
recently replaced. The dash area has a clean appearance, with a
collection of still-readable factory gauges in the instrument
cluster, and a Kenwood AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth connectivity at
its center to provide a variety of audio options during your
journeys. The factory air conditioning still blows strong and cold,
so you'll have no trouble driving this classic in comfort
throughout the year.
This vintage Mopar offering drives out nicely. It's powered by a
5.9-liter fuel injected V8 that represented its manufacturer's
largest displacement option for the Laramie when this one rolled
out, and the engine still performs well, firing up with no
hesitation and accelerating smoothly. The featured four-speed
automatic transmission shifts without issue and its overdrive gear
equips this truck with good manners at highway speeds. While lifted
pickups aren't generally known for their refined rides, the added
Rough Country lift kit on this one is accompanied by dual
stabilizers to reduce bump steer and minimize harsh feedback from
rough roads, so its surprisingly comfortable.
