NEW PRICE! This 1933 Packard Eight Series 1002 Phaeton is a
well-preserved example powered by the 320ci L-head straight-eight
paired with a 3-speed synchromesh transmission. With the original
Light Yellow paint and original black leather interior, this
Packard is a beautiful representation that would be a great weekend
driver, tourer and welcome at local shows. Originally sold new in
1933, one of only 1,099 Series 1002 chassis produced, this Packard
has been cared for by a small number of dedicated enthusiasts. The
earliest documented owner, Mr. Brown, retained the car for over 25
years before selling it in 1999. David Critchlow Sr. acquired the
Packard in 2004, later selling it to Tom Crook, the esteemed
Packard expert and restorer. Mr. Crook completed an engine rebuild
and sold the car to the current owner in 2013, at which point it
had just 4,618 miles since restoration. The current owner has been
driven approximately 8,000 miles. This Packard is a former CCCA
National First Prize winner and holds CCCA Full Classic status.
This Packard presents well and is in good overall condition. The
Light-Yellow paint is in good condition and mostly original with
some selected touchups over the years from normal use. The chrome
trim accents are in good overall condition with some wear showing
in the expected areas from high use. The Packard has dual horns,
dual side spotlights, wind wings, windscreen that can lie flat,
driving lamps, tan canvas-covered trunk and 17inch wire wheels. The
tan canvas top is in good condition with minor frayingin two
corners. This Packard is a beautiful, mostly original example that
would be welcomed at local shows and a great motorcar to use for
touring. The Packards original interior is in good condition with
age showing from regular use. The original black leather seating
shows an overall patina with a couple tears. The black leather door
sides are in great condition, and the brown carpet is in good
overall condition. The dash presents well with the instrument panel
in overall good condition. The interior is in considerably
well-maintained condition for a Packard that has been a reliable
driver over the years. This model 1002 is powered by its original
320ci L-head straight-eight with nine main bearings, paired with a
three-speed synchromesh manual transmission and single-plate
clutch. Fuel is delivered through a Stromberg dual downdraft
carburetor with automatic choke and a mechanical fuel pump. Power
is sent to a semi-floating rear axle, with the chassis employing
semi-elliptic leaf springs and worm-and-roller steering. Stopping
power comes from mechanical drum brakes assisted by a vacuum power
unit for all four wheels, with adjustments available for brake
sensitivity. The car is equipped with Packards Ride Control system,
offering driver-adjustable shock absorber settings. All factory
instrument gauges are functional; a tachometer has been added.
Maintenance highlights include regular servicing every 500 to 750
miles, steering sector shaft and thermostat syphon assembly
serviced in 2019 and tires replaced in 2023. The Packard was most
recently serviced in July 2025, comes with service records and a
