Unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Salon in 1985, the new Ferrari 328
showcased a refined evolution of its predecessor's wedge-shaped
Pininfarina design. The 328 featured a more powerful 3.2-liter V8,
increasing horsepower by 16 percent to 268 and the torque by nearly
20 percent to 224 lb-ft. This U.S.-market Rosso Corsa 328 GTS (Gran
Turismo Spider) offers the added flair of open-air motoring with
its removable targa-style top. Built during the final production
year, it benefits from anti-lock brakes and the distinct convex
16-inch wheels.
The CARFAX Vehicle History Report for this 328 GTS begins in 1989,
when it was first titled in Florida. It shows consistent mileage
increases as the car went to Georgia and Massachusetts through
August 2006, when the car was brought to Virginia with its current
caretaker, having accumulated only 28,033 miles.
Between 2021 and 2023, this 328 underwent a comprehensive
mechanical recommissioning and sympathetic cosmetic restoration.
Marque expert Chuck Wray of Grand Touring Enterprises of Frederick,
Maryland, performed the work. The refurbishment included a full
engine-out service and attention to all major systems.
Additionally, it proved to be the ideal opportunity to service the
transmission, clutch, brakes, suspension, fuel, and cooling
systems. Cosmetic improvements in the engine compartment were also
completed before re-installation. The interior leather was
refreshed, and new Wilton wool carpeting was installed. A full
account of the work completed at Grand Touring is on file, totaling
over $130,000.
This 328 has been a faithful companion on numerous weekend trips
and tours over the past two years, including multiple DC British
Reliability Runs. As a final-year model, the U.S.-market Ferrari
328 GTS represents the popular 308/328 series in its most refined
and usable form. The next caretaker of this 328 will benefit from
the extensive efforts recently completed along with its jack,
spare, and books in leather folio. It embodies the most desirable
features of a mechanically sorted and beautifully presented
Ferrari.
