Conceived for the Italian Riviera and sun-drenched marinas, the
Jolly distilled postwar Italian motoring into its most carefree
form, pairing Fiat's compact Cinquecento with open-air charm,
wicker seating, and a surrey top. Built by Ghia in extremely
limited numbers, only a few hundred were produced from new, while
countless others were later converted to mimic its beloved,
buggy-like silhouette.
This original Ghia-built Jolly is documented by its original
Italian Libretto di Circolazione and PRA paperwork issued through
Automobile Club d'Italia, recording its first registration in Turin
in June 1958. The libretto also records chassis number 420901 and
engine number 460249, identifying the car as a Fiat 600 with
"Aperta" coachwork. Remarkably, it is said to be the only example
delivered new with a 747-cc engine supplied by Abarth, an extremely
rare period upgrade yielding nearly 40 horsepower. Ordered new as a
gift within the Perinetto family, the Jolly was first registered in
the name of Piera Perinetto, with subsequent period stamps
supporting continued road use and inspections through the
1960s.
The paperwork records a 1976 re-registration-reportedly into the
name of Mr. Perinetto's secretary for tax purposes-followed by
continued period stamps supporting ongoing Italian road
registration. Finally, the car was registered to Perinetto's
grandson, Gianni Musso, in 1985, when he is said to have returned
the car to its original cream color scheme that it wears today.
Today, offered with 22,428 kilometers shown and its original
documents, this rare Jolly stands apart for its unusually complete
history since new. With its sporting Abarth powertrain and
long-term family stewardship, it offers a wonderfully evocative,
carefree slice of la dolce vita.
