The 1957 Continental Mark II was an elegant, meticulously built
coupe that remains a standout of mid-century automotive design. The
Mark II was intended to rival Europe's finest grand tourers and
establish the Continental Division as a premier luxury brand. Each
vehicle was largely hand-assembled and finished to exacting
standards. Production was intentionally limited and Ford is said to
have lost money on each unit. Around 440 Continental Mark II models
were built during the 1957 model year, before the Continental
Division was folded into the Lincoln Division.
Classic Design & Styling -
This mostly original Continental Mark II is a handsome example of
this classic. The factory Starmist White exterior has had some
minor touch-up work and is in overall good condition. Mark II
exterior ornamentation is minimal, but chrome and stainless have
been well maintained and the classic faux 'tire bulge' profile is
molded into the deck lid. Inside the Mark II interior utilized only
high-quality materials throughout. The tasteful original 'Bridge of
Weir Scottish' leather upholstery presents well with only normal
wear. The coupe is equipped with an air conditioning system
w/headliner vents, power seat, power windows, full instrumentation
w/tach and a built-by-hand 'Continental' AM/FM sound system.
Lincoln Power and Performance -
Under the hood, the '57 Mark II utilized Lincoln's powerful
364-cu-in (6.0-liter) V8/4V. This was a larger version of the
traditional 292/312 Ford Y-block and was rated at 285hp-415lb/ft of
torque. It is paired with a TurboDrive 3-speed automatic
transmission giving the coupe respectable performance for a luxury
car of that era. The solid chassis is equipped with power steering
and power drum brakes. Steel wheels with full factory covers mount
Coker Classic wide-white tires.
The Continental Mark II is prized for its craftsmanship and
distinctive styling. There are very few of these classic
Continentals around - it is a piece of Ford/Lincoln history that
belongs in your Blue Oval garage.
