Ford created quite the sensation at the fearsome 1963 Monte Carlo
Rally when the Swedish team of Bo Ljungfeldt and Gunnar Hggbom
became the first to win all six special stages whilst piloting a
Falcon powered by a 260 cu-in V8. It proved itself in the world's
fastest company by dashing through 2,600 miles of snow, freezing
fog, and glare ice on zig zagging Alpine grades. Halfway through
the model year, the Falcon became a boisterous performance car,
with the 260 V8 being added to its option sheet for the first time,
to create what Ford described as the "Super Torque Ford Sports Hard
Top."
Its original build sheet shows that this Falcon was assembled at
the San Jose, California, assembly plant on 17 June 1963, which
Ford referred to as the 1963 Sprint V8. Finished in Corinthian
White with a Red Crush Vinyl interior, this Sprint was powered by
the 260 cu-in "Challenger" V8, mated to the optional four-speed
manual transmission. The Sprint trim also included front bucket
seats, a sports-type steering wheel, chrome engine accessories, and
a sports tachometer as standard equipment.
Still in California in 2005, the Falcon later entered a large
Texas-based collection as a well-preserved and highly original
example. Fulfilling its sporting potential, this Falcon
successfully completed the 2025 Tejas Turismo Hill Country Rally,
wearing the same livery as the Swedish team's Falcon during the
1963 Monte Carlo Rally. It is furnished with its original build
sheet, owner's manual, two sets of keys, and benefits from an
extensive detail performed in preparation for sale. A shining
example of an early muscle car, this original V8-powered Falcon
Sprint is ideal for continued rally use and an intriguing entry in
some of the world's most exclusive historic events, including the
Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique just as the Swedes proved on the
corniche above Monaco over 60 years ago.
