Few cars can honestly claim to be time capsules-this 1972 Chevrolet
Malibu Chevelle SS is one of them. Finished in its stunning Sequoia
Green Metallic over a black interior, this true Super Sport
represents an almost unheard-of level of originality, preservation,
and documented history that simply cannot be replicated.
Purchased on the original owner's high school graduation day at
Berger Chevrolet in Grand Rapids, Michigan, this Chevelle has
remained with the same owner since day one. With just 13,262
original miles, the car spent decades carefully stored on blocks in
the same garage, and kept out of the elements. The result is an
outstanding original-condition SS that still wears its factory
paint, interior, drivetrain, and components.
Power comes from its original 350 V8, paired with a 3-speed manual
transmission on the floor, delivering an authentic early-1970s
driving experience. The car remains completely stock, with only
subtle, period-correct enhancements "to taste," including
white-painted factory wheels, white frame rails, and red, white,
and blue rear speaker grilles-all easily reversible and done with
respect to the car's originality.
Recently recommissioned after long-term storage, the Chevelle
received fresh fluids, a cleaned fuel system, new points and
condenser, and a new battery. Remarkably, it fired up with little
effort and ran exceptionally well. On its first drive since 1986,
the car performed exactly as it would have when new-smooth, strong,
and confidence-inspiring. The clutch engages cleanly, the
transmission shifts smoothly, the power steering and brakes
function properly, and even the original tires rounded out after a
few miles of driving.
This SS is well equipped with power steering, power brakes, bench
seat, cowl-style hood, SS trim and stripes, factory SS wheels,
headrests, Astro Ventilation, and the original AM radio. Nearly
every component remains functional, including lights, signals,
blower motor, defrost, horn, and radio-an extraordinary feat for a
car that has never been restored.
This car is still held on the original title issued in 1972 and is
on consignment to us from the original owner. Additional
documentation includes the original Protect-O-Plate, original Bill
of Sale, original application for title, original carbon of the
Cashiers check used to purchase, original manual, and all factory
casting numbers and stamping are present and legible.
Cars are only original once. A one owner, all original Chevelle SS
is something that is truly special. If you are searching for a true
survivor muscle car with unmatched provenance, originality, and a
story that spans over five decades, this 1972 Chevelle SS stands in
a league of its own. This car is an outstanding addition to any
collection.
