In October 1964, the groundbreaking Jaguar Series 1 E-Type received
significant upgrades. Its new 4.2-liter dual-overhead-cam
inline-six engine featured a reinforced crankshaft, boosting torque
by 23 lb-ft to 283 lb-ft. A more refined, all-synchromesh
four-speed Jaguar transmission replaced the previous Moss gearbox,
enabling smoother gear shifts. Additionally, reclining bucket seats
were introduced, improving comfort and versatility. These updates
cemented the E-Type's status as Britain's leading sporting car.
Today, the Series 1 4.2-liter E-Type is highly sought after for its
enhanced power, improved usability, and timeless design that
continues to captivate enthusiasts.
According to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate on file,
this 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Roadster was completed on 8
November 1966 in Opalescent Silver Grey over a Black interior and
dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York, the following February.
Furthermore, the certificate confirms that the car retains its
original, matching-numbers engine and cylinder head, both bearing
number "7E9839-9." The 1967 model year closed the chapter on the
fabled Series 1 with its covered headlamps and synchronized
four-speed transmission and has long been considered the ideal
sweet spot for both driving and collecting.
Today, this 4.2-liter roadster presents handsomely in lustrous dark
blue, paired with a matching canvas top and tonneau. Its biscuit
leather cabin provides a warm contrast, while radial redline tires
wrapped around chrome wire wheels add a subtle, period-correct
touch. Under the hood, the tidy matching-numbers XK inline-six
breathes through the desirable triple-SU carburetor setup used
before U.S.-delivered E-Types were softened with twin Stromberg
carburetors in mid-1967. Following the restoration, final finishing
and detailing were completed by Bishop's Restorations.
Prized for combining Series 1 covered-headlight styling with the
stronger performance of the 4.2, this beautifully restored Series
1 4.2-liter E-Type Roadster is reported by the consigning Broad
Arrow Car Specialist to be a wonderful driver, delivering a
remarkable fusion of gorgeous design, effortless drivability, and
open-top fun that few mid-century sports cars can match.
