This 1956 Ford Fairlane Sunliner is an absolutely stunning,
frame-off restored convertible, with the most impressive array of
options we've ever seen! Introduced for the 1955 model year, the
Ford Fairlane sat atop of Ford Motor Company's passenger car
lineup, replacing the Crestline series as the brand's premier
offering. The Fairlane name itself was inspired by "Fair Lane," the
sprawling 1,300-acre Dearborn, Michigan estate of Henry and Clara
Ford, adding a sense of heritage and prestige to the new model
line. Positioned above the Mainline and Customline models, the
Fairlane featured more upscale styling, enhanced comfort, and
additional features, making it Ford's most luxurious mainstream
automobile of the mid-1950s. The newly designed Fairlane bodies
were instantly recognizable thanks to their distinctive "V"-shaped
side trim running along the beltline, as well as proportions that
were lower, longer, and wider, giving the redesigned Fords a
thoroughly modern appearance. For 1956, the Fairlane-including the
stylish Ford Fairlane Sunliner convertible-retained much of its
successful 1955 sheet metal while benefiting from meaningful
refinements in both design and functionality. One of the most
significant upgrades was the adoption of a 12-volt electrical
system, replacing the outdated 6-volt setup Ford had used since the
company's earliest days. This modernization improved starting
reliability, lighting performance, and overall electrical
dependability-bringing Ford in line with its primary competitor,
Chevrolet. Interior usability was also improved for 1956, as Ford
redesigned the instrument cluster to address complaints about the
previous year's hard-to-read transparent speedometer. Externally,
subtle but effective styling updates further enhanced the
Fairlane's appeal. New oval-shaped front parking lights replaced
the older round units, giving the car a more refined and
contemporary front-end appearance. The signature "V" side trim was
slightly widened for added visual presence, while the rear of the
car was cleaned up through the reduction of excess chrome,
resulting in a sleeker, more balanced look. Today, the 1956 Ford
Fairlane Sunliner stands as a quintessential example of mid-1950s
American automotive design-combining open-top cruising, thoughtful
engineering upgrades, and unmistakable style from one of Ford's
most celebrated eras. Under the hood of this '56 Ford Sunliner is a
312 cubic inch V8 fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together
were rated at 225 horsepower from the factory. The Ford Y-block V8
is backed by an automatic transmission that makes this gorgeous
cruiser a total joy for anybody to drive. The exhaust sound from
this '56 Ford is terrific due to the rear-exiting dual exhaust
setup. As noted above, this 1956 Fairlane is absolutely LOADED with
options! With factory power brakes, bringing this classic Ford
convertible to a complete stop is a total breeze and the overall
driving experience is much improved. Furthermore, factory power
steering greatly improves the overall drivability of this 50s era
Ford and allows you to squeeze into a tight parking space with just
one hand. Further aiding with parking efforts, as well as the
occasional lane change, is a driver's side chrome outside mirror
that allows you to easily see down the side of this Fairlane. The
white vinyl power convertible top looks great and it's easily
raised and lowered with the simple flick of a switch. Additionally,
when in the lowered position, the convertible top tucks neatly
below the color-matched convertible top boot cover for a cleaner
look during open air cruising. Further adding to upscale look of
this '56 Ford are a pair of optional front and rear chrome bumper
guards that add a little more flair. Riding on a set of wide
whitewall tires paired with full polished wheel covers, this
Fairlane has an outstanding 50s look. Moreover, the rear tires are
tucked behind a set of color-matched removable fender skits for
even more 50s flair. In addition, a rear-mounted continental kit
adds even more pizazz as well as houses a spare tire should you
need it. The exterior of this 1956 Ford Sunliner has been
refinished in a beautiful two-tone paint scheme consisting Fiesta
Red over Colonial White paint that completes the wonderful exterior
look of this gorgeous Fairlane. The interior of this 1956 Ford
Fairlane Sunliner is equally impressive! The front and rear seats
have been completely and correctly restored in matching Red and
White upholstery that matches the exterior look of the car.
Similarly, the door panels, red carpeting and matching embroidered
floor mats, steering wheel, and dash have all been either restored
or replaced during the car's extensive restoration and all remain
in great shape. Like the drivetrain and exterior, this '56 Ford's
interior is absolutely loaded with options. With rarely seen
factory air conditioning, you'll be able to stay cool even on the
hottest summer days. You'll also be able to easily adjust the
driver's seat since it comes equipped with a powered adjuster. You
also won't find yourself cranking windows up and down, since you'll
just flick an electric switch to raise and lower all 4 windows. The
instrument cluster comes equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer,
temperature gauge, and fuel gauge, along with a clock and a pair of
indicator lights for the generator and oil pressure. The dash is
finished off with the climate controls, an ash tray, glovebox, and
retro-style AM/FM/Cassette entertainment system that allows you to
listen to all of your tunes while cruising down the road. Whether
you're garage is full of classic Fords or you're buying your very
first classic car, this loaded 1956 Ford Fairlane Sunliner would
make an outstanding choice. Give Ellingson's a call today at
