This 1989 Ford Mustang GT Convertible combines an exterior that
pegs the meter on curb appeal with top-quality mechanical upgrades
that make for an exhilarating experience behind the wheel. Throw in
the option of open-air motoring and you have an awesome ride that's
pretty hard to beat. Its clean, well-fitted exterior has a crisp
appearance, pairing a pristine white backdrop with a pair of broad
blue painted stripes that run the entire length of the body.
Painted Mustang GT lettering on its side skirts and rear valance
convey the notion that this is no ordinary pony, a notion
reinforced by its low, ground hugging stance, which comes in part
by way of its upgraded tubular rear suspension.
The gray cloth interior remains in its factory configuration and
shows only slight wear, no mean feat for a car from this era. Its
high-backed bucket seats have stylish woven plaid inserts and
bracket a center console that has also come through the years in
strong fashion. The windshield and window glass is nice and clear,
surrounded by fresh-looking seals, and when the skies darken, the
accompanying white convertible top is in great shape and features a
clear glass window of its own. An aftermarket Kenwood AM/FM stereo
with an auxiliary port sits in place of the original to offer a
wealth of audio options and the power windows, door locks and
mirrors all function just as intended.
This drop top Mustang wields vastly upgraded power, in the form of
a 331-cubic-inch stroker V8 that sits in a well-maintained
compartment. Outfitted with Ford Racing aluminum heads, a BN303
camshaft and a BBK cold air intake to optimize its already
substantial output, the engine has logged fewer than 5000 miles
since its rebuild and is running in top form. It pairs with a
4-speed automatic transmission that includes an overdrive gear and
has been enhanced with a Hughes shift kit to form a drivetrain that
holds the promise of many future miles of spirited driving. The V8
exhales into a pair of shorty headers leading to a dual exhaust
that terminates in a pair of Flowmaster mufflers to create a deep,
commanding tone with a tap on the accelerator.
