The 1998 Bentley Continental T North American RSE, is a Regional
Special Edition that featured an array of unique enhancements that
distinguished it from the standard Continental T. The RSE featured
special 18-inch chrome-plated wheels, highly figured burr walnut
veneer finishers with elegant wrap-over waist rails, and chrome
bezels for the interior gauges. The cabin received a unique trim
treatment blending twin-color hides, perforated hides, Alcantara
accents, and a color-keyed gear selector. This was complemented by
an electrically operated rear window blind and an integrated Alpine
navigation system. Externally, the car wore color-keyed sill
finishers, matching rear bumper undertrays, polished
stainless-steel headlamp surrounds, a shaded Sundym-tinted
windscreen, and a triband aerial. Special paint options further
underline the exclusivity of this limited-market Continental T.
As detailed in the digital order forms provided by the Rolls-Royce
Foundation, the ordering process for this RSE began in late summer
1997. The car was specified in special order, Blue Sequin Mica over
a Sandstone leather interior. The Deviations list shows that Royal
Blue accents were used on the dashboard top, steering wheel hub,
grips, airbag, and gear knob, all complemented by Dark Blue wool
carpets. The seats were uniquely specified with Royal Blue accents
on the bolsters, as noted in the digital copy faxed silhouette
showing the exact leather color placement.
Once the detailed build specification was completed, a Certificate
of Origin was issued to Manhattan Motorcars of New York on 13 April
1998. The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows that the car
received its pre-delivery inspection on 23 April and was then
titled in Pennsylvania on 15 May. The car then passed through
Illinois before entering the collection of a Southern
California-based Rolls-Royce and Bentley dealer in 2004. They
retained the car until 2015 when it went to Florida and New York
before entering the current owner's collection in 2022. Cataloged
with just under 55,000 miles, the car remains in original condition
today. As one of just 14 examples produced for the North American
market, this example is the ideal addition to any collection
seeking what is likely the finest example of special edition
Bentley from its era.
