The XJS Convertible marked Jaguar's first true drop-top since the
legendary E-Type ceased production at the end of 1974. Introduced
initially in hardtop form in 1975, the XJS carried the torch
forward as the E-Type's modernized successor; retaining its
statement-making V12 while evolving over the next decade into a
refined grand tourer. From 1981, the XJS was fitted with the
High-Efficiency V12 that produced an improved 263 horsepower and
far better fuel economy. The XJS Convertible arrived for the 1989
model year with a power-folding soft top plus meaningful upgrades
such as anti-lock brakes, a revised steering rack with a tighter
turning radius, fresh multi-spoke alloy wheels, central locking,
and an elevated cabin featuring new burl walnut trim and
power-adjustable heated sport seats-all of which only strengthened
the XJS' appeal.
The most luxurious Jaguar model available at the time of its
arrival, this 1989 Jaguar XJS Convertible is finished in its
original Satin Beige Metallic with a Chocolate canvas power folding
top over a Barley leather interior. It is heavily equipped as
standard with a three-speed automatic transmission, 15-inch
polished aluminum wheels, Lucas fog lights, air conditioning,
leather bucket seats, power steering, power brakes power windows,
power door locks, power mirrors, AM/FM cassette stereo, and cruise
control.
According to its clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this XJS was
first registered in St. Louis, Missouri in September 1988 and
remained in the state for more than 30 years under a small number
of attentive owners. Regular servicing is documented by the report,
including a substantial refresh at European car specialists GLM
Motorworks in February 2021 where the front shock absorbers and
bushings were replaced, the fuel system was serviced, and the fuel
injectors were replaced. The Florida-based consignor acquired the
car that July. It has since received additional care including a
service in October 2025.
Carefully maintained by a string of meticulous collectors, this
example boasts just 6,726 miles from new. With collector mileage
and a lifetime of documented, enthusiast-level care, this 1989 XJS
Convertible is an as new example of Jaguar's venerable V12
flagship.
