The 1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V epitomized the near-endless
quest for Ford Motor Company to create the most distinctive and
luxurious automobile to traverse the Eisenhower Interstate System.
The new Continental's imposing 131-inch wheelbase necessitated the
powerful 430 cu-in V8 engine, tuned to 315-horsepower that year and
was paired with a smooth three-speed Turbo-Drive transmission. The
Mark V received notable aesthetic changes, distinguishing it from
its Mark III and IV predecessors. These included flatter front
bumpers with iconic "Dagmar" protrusions, and four horizontal
chrome spears on the front fenders. A redesigned grille, an
exquisitely crafted one-year-only dashboard, along with completely
revised rear styling further set the 1960 model apart.
This 1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V Convertible is finished as
when new in Polaris White with a matching soft top and a sumptuous
Red leather interior. While every Continental was equipped with the
highest levels of standard equipment, this Mark V Convertible has
been additionally optioned from the factory with fender skirts, air
conditioning, an auto-dimming headlight system, Travel-Tuner radio,
and an electric clock.
In 2023, the Continental joined the esteemed Indiana-based Bill &
Patti Spurling Collection, where it was restored over the next
several years. Highlights include 1960 Lincoln Mark V-specific wire
wheels and wide whitewall tires, front and rear hydraulic extra
heavy-duty shocks, power steering rebuild kit, and a complete
mechanical rebuild of the drivetrain. It was most recently fully
serviced in March 2024 by Hargett Automotive & Performance in
Evansville, Illinois, to prepare the car for driving.
This beautifully restored Lincoln Continental Convertible is now
offered with 86,763 miles at cataloging and is furnished with
owner's manuals and invoices on file and available to review. The
result of its painstaking refresh is one of the finest examples,
cosmetically and mechanically, available on the market today,
offering an opulent driving experience that defined what Lincoln
called the Continental's "peak of perfection."
