Introduced as part of Cadillac's updated 1956 lineup, the Series 62
represented the apex of mid-century American luxury and
engineering, with the convertible being the most expensive when new
and the most collectible today. It combined long, graceful body
lines with a robust 285-horsepower, 365 cu-in V8 that delivers
smooth, effortless acceleration. Cadillac's 1956 styling emphasized
sweeping side sculpting, pronounced tailfins, and a prominent
chrome grille. The interior matched the exterior's ambition: deep,
generously cushioned seats, with abundant chrome and stainless trim
throughout.
According to a digital copy of its Cadillac build sheet, this
Series 62 was sold new in the Cincinnati, Ohio area after
completing production in February 1956. Upon joining The Bill &
Patti Spurling Collection in 2016, the car immediately underwent a
complete frame-off restoration at Classic Car Restoration of Fort
Lauderdale, Florida. With the body removed, the frame was expertly
restored to factory specifications while the bodywork was
refinished in period-correct Mandan Red. Inside, a striking
two-tone red and white leather interior was specified along with a
white convertible top. Fully revitalized in a vibrant two-tone
configuration, it was additionally restored with chrome Sabre-spoke
wheels.
Today, this Cadillac Convertible continues to project the same
postwar optimism and status, captivating anyone who passes by. The
Series 62 confirmed Cadillac's position as the global leader in
luxury, and naturally, these cars are highly prized by collectors
today for their luxurious amenities that other manufacturers took
years to adopt. Beautifully restored, this Series 62 Convertible is
well-suited for top-down touring or show use, making it the ideal
addition to any collection. As enthusiastically proclaimed in
Cadillac's own sales literature, "We think you'll find that this is
the perfect time to move up to a 1956 Cadillac!"
