For many of us, the primary appeal of classic cars is their ability
to take us back to a simpler time and you can make a pretty good
argument that few classics can do a better job of that than this
2025 Volkswagen Meyers Manx Dune Buggy Tribute. Featuring a
solid-looking blue fiberglass body and an assortment of chrome
components that really show nicely, this open-air ride absolutely
exudes nostalgia. After emerging from a 10-plus year hiatus in
storage and receiving a revitalized drivetrain, it's now a very
clean representation of an automotive genre that took the country
by storm decades ago and is now ready for many smile-inducing
future miles.
The blue vinyl interior shows only minor signs of wear, which is
impressive for a car that would seem to spend so much of its time
with the top down. The front bucket seats are well-padded and
broad, with more pronounced backrests for support than you normally
find in this segment. Up front, the dash area contains a full
assembly of functional gauges to monitor the vitals and, should the
skies darken while you're out putting it through its paces, the
accompanying soft vinyl top is also in good shape and stands ready
to protect you from the elements.
Step around to the back and you'll see that the obligatory engine
cage has been removed to create a sleeker look, putting a 1776-cc
air cooled flat-four engine on full display in a well-maintained
bay. Fed by a period-correct one barrel carburetor that sits under
a chrome air cleaner, the engine has logged fewer than 500 miles
since it was professionally rebuilt with a full complement of
quality components, including an Engle W90 cam, and new EMPI
lifters. It's just emerging from its break-in stage, and it joins a
4-speed manual transmission that was recently rebuilt by Arizona's
own Doug's Buggs-N-Bunny's to form a drivetrain that's in top notch
form. Chrome spring coilovers both fore and aft heighten the
visuals on this standout machine while also equipping it with
increased agility.
