1916 Willys-Overland Model 83 Touring Car
Clean Older Restoration | Ready to Enjoy
Offered here is a very appealing 1916 Willys-Overland Model 83 Touring Car, finished in Washington Blue with white pinstriping over a black interior, and fitted with a high-quality replacement canvas top that fits and presents beautifully. This car was purchased from a long-time owner in Washington and has spent many years in California under the care of its current owner, a retired professional mechanic.
The six-digit odometer currently reads 121,329 miles (true mileage unknown). Included with the car are some documentation, owner’s manual, wheel wrench, spare tire, driving gloves, and a custom car cover. The car carries a clear California title, with registration current through April 2026.
This older, driver-quality restoration presents nicely, with good paint and a consistent shine. The newer cloth top fits superbly. Features include running boards with Overland “Step-Up” plates, the correct ornate stop lamp assembly on the left rear fender, and a rear tire cover. A discreet custom storage compartment has been added on the passenger side for tools, manuals, and documents. The restored wooden wheels are fitted with Lester Tire Company 34 x 4½-inch, 6-ply bias-ply tires, showing approximately 95% tread remaining. The mechanical braking system is in working order, and the car functions and drives as designed.
The interior was restored during the same period and remains in very nice condition. It features a Fat Man steering wheel, Jones odometer/speedometer, amperage gauge, and a modern temperature gauge discreetly added for monitoring. A battery cutoff switch is located in the upper right footwell. The steering column switch cluster includes a working horn, along with switches for the magneto and lighting. Upholstery, door panels, and flooring present well. The original footrests remain with the car, with expected wear visible on the left side. The fuel tank is located beneath the front passenger seat and is measured by dipstick, as originally designed; an electric fuel pump has been added and works in conjunction with the factory gravity-fed system.
Power comes from the inline four-cylinder engine, displacing approximately 4.4 liters (≈4,400 cc), which starts easily, runs smoothly, and delivers steady, period-correct performance suitable for touring. Power is transmitted through a 3-speed manual transmission with a cone clutch, which engages progressively and shifts smoothly once underway. The mechanical brakes provide predictable, progressive stopping for the era, while the steering and suspension operate properly, resulting in a composed and enjoyable driving experience for local use, tours, and events.
