The shape and allure of a classic C3 Corvette are impossible for
almost anyone to deny. Its iconic status has inspired books, songs,
and fantasies of young children since 1953. One look at this
numbers-matching 1973 Chevrolet Corvette L-82 repainted in its
original Elkhart Green, and it is easy to see why. The sinewy Coke
bottle shape, wonderfully practical T-top roof and luggage rack,
and overall factory appearance with just 92,623 (believed) actual
miles, and this 'Vette lets you easily travel back in time to the
back end of the third generation of Chevy's halo car.
Inside, we find a stock-looking Dark Saddle vinyl interior. A
center console separates a pair of supportive bucket seats, while a
power-assisted steering wheel sits ahead of a large 160-mph
speedometer and a 7,000-rpm tachometer. A five-pod of auxiliary
gauges sits atop the center stack, while an AM/FM cassette player
handles soundtrack duties.
Under the hood, we find a numbers-matching L82 350 cubic-inch V-8
topped by a single four-barrel Quadra-Jet carburetor, while spent
gases are expelled via stock-style exhaust manifolds and dual
exhaust. From the factory, the L82 produced 250 horsepower and 285
pound-feet of torque. Those ponies are funneled through a
numbers-matching TH400 three-speed automatic transmission before
being sent out to the Corvette rear.
