Dressed in a color scheme that pairs its red exterior with painted
black pinstripes, and powered by a factory-correct drivetrain, this
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu offers the opportunity to get behind
the wheel of one of America's most coveted muscle cars. In fact,
with its cowl hood, pinstriping and blacked out grille already in
place, this vintage Chevy could be transformed into a bona fide
Super Sport tribute in just a few steps.
Climb inside, and you'll find the interior has been revitalized in
black vinyl and has that roomy, nostalgia-inducing appearance the
Chevelles from this period were known for. The front buckets
straddle a center console that's in great shape and positions a
horseshoe shifter that has been seamlessly relocated from the
column within easy reach, a nice upgrade. A sharp aftermarket
steering wheel sits on the column, with a Sun Super Tach in place
to keep tabs on RPMs, and a pair of additional gauges have been
mounted below the dash to join their factory counterparts. With the
Classic Air climate control system functioning in top form, you and
your passengers will ride in comfort throughout the year and a
retro-look AM/FM stereo with an auxiliary port is also on hand, so
you won't run out of audio options.
In addition to its inherently appealing looks, this Malibu is
powered by a vital drivetrain that's anchored by a numbers matching
307-cubic-inch V8 outfitted with an Edelbrock intake manifold and a
Holley four-barrel carburetor to optimize its output. The engine
exhales into a pair of long tube headers that lead to a dual
exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers, so a tap on the accelerator
yields a fittingly deep note for a robust classic like this. The
accompanying 3-speed automatic TH350 shifts smoothly and, with both
power steering and power brakes that position discs up front, the
navigation is easy and the stops come quickly.
