With the evidence of its years of service on its two-tone exterior
preserved under a smooth layer of satin clearcoat, its set of 16"
steel wheels wrapped with period-correct bias play tires and an
appropriately antique-looking rear wooden bed floor, this 1954
Chevrolet 3100 Patina is a rolling automotive homage to post-war
America. But don't let this classic's charmingly weathered outer
layer lead you to the conclusion that it's anything but rock solid.
Not only is its steel body very much structurally sound, but this
Chevy has also been outfitted with several difference-making
mechanical modifications to yield an experience behind the wheel
that you don't often find in its segment.
The interior has been revitalized while keeping its vintage
appearance intact, with a bench seat that wears a two-tone cloth
cover. The dash area features the same pinstriping as what's on
display outside the doors and harbors a collection of factory
gauges with clear lenses for easy viewing. That factory-style
steering wheel sitting on the column is almost certainly the same
one this truck started out with, and just to the right, an
elongated handle puts the shift lever within easy reach. A set of
door-mounted speakers brings the sound from the aftermarket AM/FM
radio with Bluetooth connectivity into the cockpit.
Raise the hood and you'll see that the engine bay is well-sorted,
with hoses and wires properly routed and a sizable aluminum
radiator upfront for an added measure of temperature control. At
the center of the compartment, a period-correct 235-cubic-inch
inline six stands by, equipped with a 2-barrel carburetor. The
engine is in good shape, pulling with surprising conviction while
sending a distinctive note through its straight-pipe dual exhaust,
and it pairs with a 5-speed manual transmission that shifts without
issue. This noble truck rides on a Mustang II-style front end that
includes rack and pinion steering, so the navigation is smooth and
precise and an air ride suspension at both ends provides enhanced
adjustability.
