Taken from the army and made for the masses, few trucks can compare
with the iconic status of the Civilian Jeep (CJ) series of one of
America's favorite vehicles. This 1982 Jeep CJ7 4X4 is fully
repainted in an eye-catching bright red, with a complementary tan
soft top and doors. With its hood-mounted spotlights, grille guard,
heavy duty winch, tow hooks, and upgraded bumper-mounted,
swing-away spare tire, this CJ is ready to enjoy the fun on or off
road whenever you are.
Inside, this CJ retains its relatively no-frills militaristic
personality. An aftermarket center console, complete with lockable
storage and cupholders, separates a pair of comfy, high-back bucket
seats. A power-assisted three-spoke tilt wheel sits ahead of an
offset gauge cluster mounted on a mirrored steel plate, featuring a
large 85 mph speedometer flanked by auxiliary gauges for volts,
engine temperature, and oil pressure. HVAC controls consist of a
series of push/pull and twist knobs, making it easy to keep your
eyes on the road through the upright, fold-down windshield. A
powder-coated expletive bar gives the front passenger something to
grab onto when the road disappears and their center of gravity
shifts outside their comfort zone. A Pioneer AM/FM cassette player
pumps out the soundtrack of your choosing through matching Pioneer
speakers mounted on either side of the rear seat.
Under the hood, we find a transplanted 350 cubic-inch V-8 engine.
Fed by a single four-barrel Edelbrock carburetor, spent gases are
done away with via a set of long tube headers and out of a trick
side-exit exhaust. That power is funneled through a tried-and-true
four-speed manual transmission on its way to the rear wheels. Or
engage the manually locking front hubs, shift into four-wheel-high
or four-wheel-low, and send power to all four wheels for maximum
traction.
