Gateway Classic Cars of Philadelphia is proud to digitally present
this 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. It is a meticulously built
street/strip machine that blends aggressive styling with serious
performance hardware throughout. Finished in striking custom
Redfire paint over a burgundy cloth interior, this SS makes a bold
statement before the engine is even fired.
Under the hood sits a 4-bolt-main 355ci GM crate small-block, built
with 10.5:1 compression and topped with Dart Sportsman II heads. A
Comp Cams hydraulic cam and full roller rockers by BPH Racing
Engines deliver strong, reliable power across the RPM range.
Ignition duties are handled by an MSD billet distributor with
timing control and 6AL ignition, ensuring crisp throttle response
and consistent spark. Cooling is managed by a five-core aluminum
radiator, while ceramic-coated headers feed into a custom 3-inch
exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers, producing a deep, authoritative
tone.
Power is sent through a built Turbo 350 automatic transmission,
upgraded with a Boss Hogg torque converter. A steel 3-inch
driveshaft with 1350 U-joints and billet yokes ensures durability
under hard launches. Out back, an 8.5-inch Grand National 10-bolt
rear end features 30-spline Moser axles, C-clip eliminators, 4.10
Motive gears, an Eaton Posi-Traction unit, and an LPW aluminum
girdle cover-a proven setup for strength and traction.
Additional performance details include a 4-inch Glasstek fiberglass
hood, a trunk-mounted battery housed in a Moroso battery box, and a
well-appointed cockpit designed with both safety and function in
mind. The interior is equipped with an 8-point roll cage with dual
swing-outs, AutoMeter Ultra-Lite gauges, an Innovate Motorsports
wideband AFR gauge, and a Grant carbon-fiber steering wheel.
This Monte Carlo SS represents a carefully executed build with
high-quality components throughout-offering muscle-car attitude,
modern performance upgrades, and unmistakable street presence.
