"The 1968 Chevrolet Impala is a true symbol of late-1960s American
automotive design-bold, elegant, and built for both comfort and
performance. As part of the fourth generation of Impalas, the 1968
model received a sleek and more aerodynamic body style with curved
side panels, hidden windshield wipers, and a sculpted front grille
that gave it a smooth, flowing appearance. The signature triple
taillight design at the rear remained a hallmark of the Impala's
identity, while chrome accents and wide proportions gave it a
powerful road presence." - Classic Cars
This 1968 Chevrolet Impala SS 396 Custom Coupe has remained in the
same family since purchased in El Paso Texas. This Impala is
presented in a Tripoli Turquoise body, Ermine White roof and
coordinating Turquoise and Parchment interior. The original 396
cubic inch motor was replaced with a 454 cubic inch motor and is
mated to a Turbo 400 transmission which delivers the power to the
rear wheels through a twelve bolt rear-end.
The current motor was rebuilt and installed in 1996 utilizing a 454
cubic inch block and installing the original 396 crank and heads as
well as forged pistons, mild camshaft, and Rhoads lifters.
This Impala SS was subject to a body off frame restoration
performed in Texas approximately 20 years ago and has remained in
good overall condition since, this can be attributed to the
restoration of a solid car as well as being in a long-term storage
situation with limited use. The underside and trunk area of this
Chevrolet is impressively solid.
Originally a bench seat car this Impala was upgraded with front
bucket seats and a center console. Factory options include power
steering and brakes as well as air conditioning (which will require
a service). Currently the radio has been deleted but the dash panel
remains in good condition.
Coming out of storage this badged SS 427 has had a complete front
and rear brake job as well as fresh oil and filter, what this car
would benefit from next would be for someone to get behind the
wheel and shake off the cobwebs as they are cruising in this
classic.
