Announed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Aventador offered dramatically enhanced performance, handling, and drivability over its predecessor, the Murciélago. Its initial specifications were appropriately extraordinary: 690hp from a 6.5L V12, a specially developed seven-speed 'ISR' transmission, all wheel drive, and a carbon fiber monocoque chassis allowed the car to hit 62mph in a mere 2.9 seconds and acheive a top speed of 217mph. Suitably extroverted styling continued the brand's tradition of awe-inspiring V12 motorcars.
For 2015, Lamborghini upped the ante with the SuperVeloce (SV) variant. Limited to 600 units worldwide, the Aventador SV offered increased output (740hp), more aggressive aerodynamics (around 180% extra downforce), and decreased weight (up to 110 lbs lighter) to enhance the already superb performance of the standard model. Despite its extreme track-tuned performance, the SV maintains the standard car's drivability with a magnetorheological adaptive damping suspension. With the Aventador's successor, the Revuelto, fully embracing hybrid power, the Aventador is the last of the brand's gasoline-only supercars and will undoubtedly become a future classic.
