Single ownership for 54 years, finished in Black with a Red
interior, and retains its matching 1600cc Super engine and
transmission. Delivered new through Hoffman Motors in New York, the
356 was originally finished in Light Ivory (6004) with Red vinyl
upholstery delivered to the first owner, Andrew S. Bara, in Fort
Sheridan, Illinois. It later passed to its second owner, Mr
McGauran, in the early 1970s, who retained the 356 for over five
decades prior to its acquisition by European Collectibles.
The paintwork is in very nice overall condition with patina in the
paint and chrome, giving this 356 a driver's-level character. The
interior is finished in Red leatherette with red German square
weave carpets and features an original VDM steering wheel, restored
VDO instrumentation, and a Porsche radio delete plate. Notable
originality remains throughout this 356, including matching
decklids, engine, and transmission. The fuel tank and sending unit
are also date-coded 1960 and are original to the car. Painted 4.5"
x 15" slotted steel wheels are mounted to Vredestein Sprint Classic
165 HR15 tires (date code 2024).
Following its arrival at European Collectibles, the 356 was
serviced and sorted. Work performed included rebuilding the braking
system, the distributor was rebuilt by 356 Carburetor Rescue, the
741 transmission was rebuilt with new synchro rings, operating
shift sleeve, bearings, seals, gaskets, axle boots, and clamps. The
suspension components and undercarriage were stripped to bare metal
and undercoated to factory specification, and are solid and
rust-free. Additional work included replacing the clutch cable,
restoring the VDO instrumentation and the heater system, installing
new spark plugs and plug wires, and a final engine tuning.
Mechanically powered by the matching 1600cc flat-four Super engine
producing 75 horsepower and paired to a four-speed manual
transmission with a four-wheel drum braking system. This 356B Super
Coupe is offered with its spare wheel, a Porsche Kardex, and recent
service. A well-sorted 356B Super presented in an appealing color
combination.
