The 1996 Chevrolet Corvette Collector's Edition Coupe is
collectible primarily because it marks the final year of C4
Corvette production, making it an end-of-generation car with
built-in historical relevance. Chevrolet intentionally limited the
package and gave it exclusive identifiers, most notably the
one-year-only Sebring Silver Metallic paint, Collector's Edition
badging, and unique wheels. Unlike cosmetic "appearance packages,"
this edition was factory-recognized as a commemorative model, which
is why it continues to hold interest with Corvette collectors,
especially those who focus on milestone years rather than just
horsepower.
In total, Chevrolet built 5,412 Collector's Edition Corvettes in
1996, out of 21,536 total Corvettes produced that year. Of those,
4,031 were coupes and 1,381 were convertibles, making the
Collector's Edition significantly rarer than a standard 1996
Corvette. While it is not ultra-low production, its value lies in
its limited run, end-of-generation status, and originality, with
well-documented, unmodified examples being the most desirable.
Within the Collector's Edition lineup, cars equipped with automatic
transmission are most desirablebut even the standard transmission
coupes remain sought after due to their place in Corvette history
rather than raw performance.
