For Sale: 1950 Ford Custom Deluxe in Tallahassee, Florida

Vehicle Description

This is a project car. This vehicle is a 1950 Custom Deluxe “Shoebox” restomod. It is a blend of classic design and modern performance. This car is solid steel. The professionally rebuilt engine (302 C.I / 5.0) has less than 50 miles on a it. The professionally rebuilt R 7R automatic transmission also has less than 50 miles on it. It has four new Coker Classic white wall radial tires (205/75/15), rims, and hub caps. Numerous parts of very distinct bullet front grill are freshly chromed pieces that have been installed. A new automatic shifter assembly has been moved to the floor. A new gas pedal assembly has been installed. New drive shaft and universal joints. It has all new drum brakes, master cylinder, and brake lines. All new custom dual exhaust installed. It should be noted, that over $25k worth of professionally installed work has been completed and digitally documented receipts will be given to the new owner or whomever requests it. Also, I will be including over a $1K worth of miscellaneous items (New “Authentic” steering wheel, horn button, chrome ring (installed), front and back Ford badges, chrome window cranks, etc.) that I previously ordered from Shoebox Central.

Exterior:

The body is all steel, it has a very distinct bullet front grill and bumper assembly. A front split window, 4 door sedan that is overall very solid. The hood is solid steel and the hinges work well. The front and back badges need replacing and both have been purchased they just need to be installed. The rear of the car has oval taillights, badging around the trunk lever, and solid bumpers. The front bumper is not currently attached but will come with the car. The rear bumper is solid and on the car. Both bumpers need to be re-chromed. All exterior trim is either on the car or will come with this purchase.  All four tires are brand new Cooper white wall radial tires that have less than 50 miles on them. The red rims and hub caps are also new and have less than 50 miles on them. All the glass is good except for the driver’s door. A new driver’s side glass window pane is ready to be installed and will come with the car.

Interior:

The steering wheel, horn button, and steering wheel chrome ring are all brand new reproduction purchased from Shoebox Central. The original front and back seats are bench seats in decent shape. The original mirror is mounted on the front split windshield. The doors vinyl needs to be replaced but is on the vehicle. Some of the door’s hardware (window cranks, etc.) is on the vehicle. Some other hardware was purchased but not installed yet. The headliner has been removed, and the interior of the roof is solid just needs to be sanded. The dash is solid steel and original. The original central gauge cluster is untouched but needs to be repaired. It is unknown what works on it. After-market oil and electric gauges were added when the new motor was installed. Some of the original knobs and pulls are on the dash and some need to be purchased. The glove box is solid and working.

Drivetrain:

The 302 V8 engine has a brand-new carburetor, and it is backed by a rebuilt R7R automatic transmission. A new gas pedal assembly was installed. Likewise, all new hoses, belts, water pump, starter, and electrics have been converted and connected to a new Die Hard 12v battery.

Undercarriage:

New coil spring independent suspension in front and new rear leaf springs in back. New driveshaft. A custom dual exhaust system, and all new drum brakes are on all 4 corners to provide good stopping power.

 patina and undercoating.

Drivability:

The only thing holding a person back from driving this car right now is the radiator and fan needs addressing, the rear differential needs to be topped off, and from a safety perspective, the front floorboards, and center transmission cowling need to be purchased and installed. After the new engine was installed, I drove this car less than thirty miles, and it drove very nicely. It is truly a diamond in the rough.

Stuff that needs to be done: the front floorboards and center transmission cowling needs to purchase and installed. The radiator needs to be either rebuilt or replaced. The rear differential has a slow leak but appeared to be running smooth. The glass molding needs replacing. This car has been converted to 12v system, but a wiring harness should be installed at some point. None of the lights have been hooked up or tested. The windshield wiper motor does not appear to be working. The interior needs some work, but it has got good bones to work with. The exterior has surface rust. The only two bad rust spots that I am familiar with are located on the back of the trunk area. One rusted area is relatively small and it is located on the left rear area near the bumper. The other rusted area is a little worse and it is located on the right rear corner near the rear bumper. I provided pictures of both bad spots, and they should not be too much trouble straightening them out. To my knowledge the entire car is solid steel, there are no fillers such as Bondo body fillers, etc.

Lastly:

This car is registered in Florida, and I have the Florida title in my hand. Likewise, the orange and black 1950 Florida license plate (Florida D.O.T approved and registered) will come with the car. Likewise, I am adding the official 319-page Ford Shop Manual with this car.
