Few muscle cars carry the rarity, history, and presence of the 1970
Shelby GT350 Convertible-and fewer still can match the pedigree of
this extraordinary example. Finished in stunning Code F Gulfstream
Aqua over a Black Deluxe interior, this Shelby is one of only 57
GT350 convertibles produced for the 1970 model year and one of just
14 finished in Gulfstream Aqua, placing it firmly among the most
collectible Shelbys ever built.
This GT350 has been rotisserie restored and is fully documented in
the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) National Registry.
Adding to its historical significance, the dash has been personally
signed by Carroll Shelby, an irreplaceable detail that elevates
this car into true collector-grade territory. It is accompanied by
a Deluxe Marti Report, confirming its originality, options, and
factory configuration.
The 1970 Shelby Mustangs occupy a unique place in automotive
history. As Shelby and Ford began to part ways, the final Shelbys
were built as 1969 models and later updated to 1970 specifications
at Ford's Kar Kraft facility-making them the only cars ever legally
carried over from one model year to another. Of the 788 total
Shelby GTs allocated for 1970, only 57 were GT350 convertibles,
making this one of the rarest production Shelbys ever offered to
the public.
Powering this Shelby is Ford's enlarged 351ci Windsor V-8, rated at
290 horsepower, backed by an FMX Select-Shift automatic
transmission. Known for its durability and strong torque, the 351W
features a hydraulic valvetrain, 470 CFM Autolite 4-barrel
carburetor, aluminum high-rise intake, and iconic "Cobra - Powered
by Ford" cast-aluminum valve covers. Functional Ram Air induction,
a low-restriction dual exhaust, heavy-duty suspension, staggered
rear shocks, and power front disc brakes deliver the performance
and drivability that defined the Shelby GT350's grand-touring
character.
With its ultra-low production, striking color combination,
extensive factory options, museum-quality restoration, and
unmatched documentation, this 1970 Shelby GT350 Convertible
represents the final chapter of the Shelby-Ford partnership-an era
defined by exclusivity, performance, and unmistakable style. These
cars are widely regarded as blue-chip Shelby investments, and
examples of this caliber are seldom offered.
Available now at Classic Cars of Sarasota.
This is not just a Shelby-it is a cornerstone piece for the serious
collector and a rare opportunity to own one of the most significant
convertibles ever to wear the Cobra name.
