*1956 Dodge Power Wagon 1-Ton 4WD Pickup*Even 70 years after it was
produced, there are few vehicles on the road today that have the
presence of an original Dodge Power Wagon. Built as the brand's
medium-duty truck, the Power Wagon was far more frequently seen
being used in military and industrial applications, than being
driven around in town - and it still looks massive today. Given
that so many of these were used as work trucks, not many have
survived - and this 1956 example may be one of the best anywhere in
the world.Finished in Dark Green with Black fenders, this Power
Wagon benefits from a 10-year restoration by M-Series Rebuild in
Norwood, North Carolina. This organization are marque specialists
in Dodge Power Wagons and other military vehicles, and has been
rebuilding big trucks since 1985. With invoices nearing $800,000,
it is safe to say that every nut and bolt on this truck has been
touched. Although these were known in the day for being extremely
stout trucks, this example has received upgraded running gear
beneath it including an oil cooled 2-speed transfer case, 4.89 rear
differential, 4-wheel disc brakes and a set of 18-inch black
painted steel wheels wrapped in 3-peak rated Goodyear Duratrac A/T
tires. Out back, big rig style mud flaps have been installed along
with a rear tow hitch, full steel front bumper with PTO, and a
finished oak wood bed in the rear. Big rig mirrors have been fitted
along with orange corner lights which give the truck an even larger
presence at night. On the interior, things look largely original to
how they would have been in 1956, but with some updates. A tan
bench seat is paired with black rubber floor mats. Climb inside and
you are met by a 3-spoke steering wheel that frames numerous
white-on-black Stewart Warner gauges which are all individually
labeled along with instructions on the dash for operating the
lockers and transfer case.Under the hood, the original flathead
inline-6 has been replaced by a 4.5-liter Cummins turbodiesel
inline-4 with a variable geometry turbocharger. This motor pushes
out 160 horsepower and a remarkable 460 lb-ft of torque, which is
sent through a Spicer 5-speed manual gearbox with a 0.69:1
overdrive. The axles are fitted with Warn locking hubs and ARB air
lockers are fitted on the front and rear axles. An aluminum
radiator keeps the rig cool, and 12-volt electricals with a pair of
Optima batteries ensures you have power to start and run all of the
trucks systems. Thankfully in addition to the 4-wheel disc brakes,
this truck was fitted with power steering to make it much easier to
drive around town.Modern trucks keep getting larger and more
powerful, but to this day, few things attract attention like a
Power Wagon. This example may not be packed with luxury features
but if what you really care about is a rugged, dependable truck
with stump-pulling torque and go-anywhere chops, it is hard to beat
this one. Given the length and cost of the restoration, it is safe
to say that if you have ever wanted to put a Power Wagon in your
garage, this example is ready to be enjoyed today.*Key Features* *
