This 1974 Volkswagen Type II Samba Bus is a cute 23-window
conversion with a split windshield and sliding sun roof that's
ready to roll! The origins of the Volkswagen Transporter dates back
to the early post-World War II era in 1947, when Dutch businessman
and early Volkswagen dealer Bernardus "Ben" Pon sketched out a
design of a light duty delivery van for VW's engineers to build for
the Dutch market which was in need of such a vehicle.
Interestingly, the first Transporter vans were essentially panel
vans without side windows or rear seating, with Volkswagen not
properly envisioning the possibility of other applications, such as
for personal use, besides this initial commercial use focus.
Debuted in 1949 and first sold in 1950, early sales were fairly
modest and limited to commercial applications such as ambulances,
postal delivery vans, and others. Within a few years, the
Transporter name evolved into names such as the Microbus and Kombi,
with the Kombi being a version with removable center and rear
seating so that it could be used to transport cargo as well as
people, and sales numbers began to start climbing. Around the same
time, features such as roof-mounted windows and a sliding sun roof
were also added for improved passenger comfort. Over the course of
the next decades, the VW Bus became an icon, whether being the
vehicle of choice for the hippie generation following around the
Grateful Dead or more broadly as an inexpensive people mover both
in the United States and across the rest of the world. In fact, VW
Bus production continued much longer outside the United States (and
even Germany too), especially in Brazil where Type 2 Kombi
production ended in 2013 due to new safety regulations. Powering
this '74 VW Bus is an air cooled 1300cc flat 4 cylinder engine fed
by a single barrel carburetor. The 1.3L 4 cylinder engine is mated
to a 4 speed manual transmission that makes this adorable
Volkswagen a super fun vehicle to drive. Exhaust exits this
Volkswagen Type II's powerplant via a single exhaust port,
generating a terrific throaty sound. Riding on a set of radial
tires mounted on painted steel wheels and accented with faux wide
whitewalls and polished hubcaps, this classic VW Bus has a
fantastic look and even better ride. Squeezing in and out of tight
parking spaces, along with lane changes, are an easy endeavor
thanks to the addition of dual outside mirrors that provide
improved visibility down the sides of this Samba bus. Both the
front and rear bumpers are outfitted with upgraded bumper guards
that elevate the exterior look of this wonderful Volkswagen Type
II. In addition to the sliding windows and the vent windows on the
driver's and passenger's side, you can also improve air flow inside
the Bus by opening the "Safari-style" pop out windshields and
sliding sun roof. Not only can you easily haul your cooler and
chairs to the local car show in the rear of the van, you also have
additional storage space atop the bus on top of the chrome-framed
wooden-slat auxiliary roof rack. The body of this Volkswagen Bus
has been refinished in a wonderful two-tone paint scheme consisting
of Pastel White over Sky Blue, completing the exterior look of this
Samba. The interior of this 23 Window 1974 Volkswagen Type II Samba
Bus is absolutely gorgeous! The front 70/30 bench seat, along with
the 2 rows of rear bench seats have been refurbished in white and
tan upholstery with sky blue piping. The interior panels,
headliner, painted dash and steering wheel are all in fantastic
condition and retain a nice stock look. Instrumentation consists of
a 120 KM/H speedometer with integrated battery indicator and oil
pressure lights as well as a fuel gauge. The radio has been vastly
upgraded to a modern CarPlay/Android Audio/FM/Bluetooth
entertainment system so that you can listen to all of your tunes
while cruising down the road. Additionally, a backup camera has
been added for safer reversing operation, easily viewable on the
9.5 inch touchscreen. Whether you're adding to your existing
collection of classic cars and trucks, or you're buying your very
first classic, this 23 Window 1974 Volkswagen Type II Samba Bus
would make an excellent choice. Give Ellingson's a call today at
