When it comes to fun in the sun, few cars on earth can rival a
drop-top Corvette. Speed, power, and style all come together in
this glorious 2005 Chevrolet Corvette Z51 Convertible. With a mere
26,077 actual miles on the odometer, this first-year C6 comes with
its original Light Tarnished Silver Metallic paint stretched out
over its original body panels. Less than half of all convertibles
made for 2005 were equipped with the optional Z51 performance
package, and even fewer came with an automatic transmission, making
this Corvette just a little more collectible for anyone looking for
scarcity to go along with their open-air sports car.
Inside, we find a posh Ebony leather interior featuring dual power
and heated bucket seats that provide lumbar support. Thanks to the
available Memory Package, the vehicle remembers settings for the
driver's seat, mirrors, and steering wheel column angle. Just ahead
of the power-telescoping steering wheel sits a six-pod gauge
cluster, highlighted by a large 7,000-rpm tachometer and a matching
200-mph speedometer, both flanked by two auxiliary gauges on either
side. If you don't want to take your eyes off the road, then the
Heads-Up Display will come in handy. Add to that the built-in
navigation system, power everything, and a premium seven-speaker
AM/FM/CD Bose stereo, and you have a sports car that is ready to
cruise comfortably for as long as you are.
Under the classic front-hinged hood of this Vette, we find a
6.0-liter LS2 small-block Chevy. This aluminum-block-and-heads
motor was only found in the C6 Corvette from 2005 until 2007, after
which it was replaced by the LS3, making the LS2-engined cars
something of a rarity by comparison. In stock form, the LS2 was
capable of pumping out a very balanced 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of
torque, which sounds as good as anything from the Golden Age of
muscle cars thanks to the low-restriction Z51 performance exhaust.
That power was then sent through a smooth-shifting 4L60E four-speed
automatic transmission before heading out to the 3.15-geared rear
end, which transfers those ponies to the pavement via staggered
five-spoke factory wheels shod in Michelin rubber.
