When it comes to instantly recognizable automobiles, it's hard to
top the third-generation Chevy Camaro. One look at this 1986
Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28, and it's easy to see why this car was
the quintessential poster car for the 1980s. With an incredible
17,468 (believed) actual miles on its odometer, its (believed)
original body is covered in what appears to be its factory white
paint and original IROC-Z decals. This numbers-matching Pony Car is
the perfect addition for anyone who wants to get as close to
feeling what it was like to pilot one of these cars when it was
new.
Inside, we find an inviting Dark Carmine Red cloth interior in
factory condition. A center console separates a pair of blush and
supportive bucket seats. A three-spoke power-assisted wheel sits
just ahead of a five-pod analog gauge cluster, while power locks,
windows, air conditioning, and cruise control supply all the modern
amenities anyone could want in the mid-1980s. Unlike many of its
Third Gen siblings, this IROC-Z has been outfitted with a sunroof
in lieu of T-Tops, while what appears to be the factory
AM/FM/Cassette player handles soundtrack duties.
Under the hood, we find a numbers-matching naturally aspirated 305
cubic-inch V-8. Topped with a single four-barrel Quadrajet
carburetor and backed by a stock-style dual-to-single-to-dual
exhaust, this V-8 pumped out around 190 horsepower and 240
pound-feet of torque when it rolled off the assembly line nearly
four decades ago. That power is routed through a 700R4 four-speed
automatic transmission before heading out to a ten-bolt rear end,
which transfers those ponies to the pavement via the now-iconic
16-inch aluminum IROC wheels.
