While technically only recently a 'classic' by insurance standards,
the C5 Corvette is a landmark in Chevy's history, representing a
turning point towards the future for Chevy. Any true Corvette
enthusiast will tell you that finding one, regardless of condition,
is always exciting, but finding one that is nearly completely stock
sends heart rates to another level of happiness, which is why this
2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z51 LSX Gen IV Supercharged has us smiling
from ear to ear. With just 28,262 believed actual miles, this Torch
Red beauty sports its original paint and body panels along with a
ridiculously impressive list of upgrades, thanks to its $100,000
frame-off rebuild.
Inside, we find an Ebony leather interior upgraded with a C7 seat
and visor conversion, a carbon fiber steering wheel, Nappa leather
shift and brake boot, and a matching Nappa leather center console,
complete with red stitching. The added pillar gauges keep tabs on
the boost and air/fuel ratio, while the standard C5 gauge cluster
lets you know when to shift and how impressively you're breaking
the speed limit. A custom Alpine AM/FM/AUX head unit looks at home
above the dual-zone climate controls, while power windows, locks,
seats, and mirrors, along with a Heads-Up Display, air
conditioning, cruise control, and a removable targa top, add all
the modern amenities anyone could ask for in a modern sports
car.
Pop the classic front-hinged hood of this C5, and long gone is the
stock LS1. In its place is a pro-built Texas Speed and Performance
383 cubic-inch supercharged V-8 engine, with too many upgrades to
list. Featuring forged internals, CNC heads, custom TSP cam,
upgraded EFI setup, and a methanol injection kit, TSP stainless
steel long tube headers, cat-less X-pipe, and Billy Boat Bullet
dual exhaust, this blown small block makes a dyno-proven 900
horsepower at the crank. That massive power is routed through a
built Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission, highlighted by a
McLeod RXT ceramic clutch, a billet steel flywheel, and new master
and slave cylinders, before heading out to a beefed-up 3.42 GM
Positraction rear. Big nineteen-inch BC forged RS45 wheels shod in
Nitto drag radials out back, with Bridgestone rubber up front.
