In May 1957 the Chrysler president put together a committee with a
goal of developing a new competitor for the compact car market. The
VW Beetle and AMC Rambler had already been produced and the other
large manufacturers had vehicles coming on the horizon. This would
be the Ford Falcon and Chevrolet Corvair so Chrysler wanted to get
ahead of the game. The chief designer ultimately came up with the
Valiant that was smaller and lighter than a full size car but did
not sacrifice passenger and luggage space which was the ultimate
goal. For the second generation, like the car you see here, they
were totally reskinned and they even managed to slightly shorten
the wheelbase even if only by 1/2 an inch. This 1963 is the first
of the second generation and is a nice example. It is painted in a
gloss Black paint that has a nice shine and all of the stainless
trim and bumpers look good. It was a multiyear project but there
are some small items still needed to finish it out, one of which is
reinstalling some of the side emblems which are included in the
sale. It is all there so if you note anything throughout the images
that looks like it is missing make sure to inquire because most
likely it will come with the car. The glass in it is all good with
no issues. It rides on a set of aftermarket American Racing wheels
with Goodyear tires that give it a bit more of a tough look from
stock.
The car has its original slant 6 engine that runs great. It has a
repainted Blue valve cover that looks good and a nice upgrade
includes a new modern aftermarket AC system. The motor is paired
with a 3 speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission which utilizes
the very unique push button shifting system. The undercarriage on
the car is all stock and the floors on it are all solid with no
issues.
The interior of the car is where you will find a little more work
to be completed but you will only notice that when you look up. The
headliner is the primary thing that needs to be installed. The
bucket seats and rear bench have been reupholstered in Red which
complement the Black exterior nicely. They have slightly darker Red
inserts which really look sharp. It has a matching Red dash topped
off with its stock gauges and trim. The only major aftermarket
component is the underdash Old Air AC unit with controls and
adjustable vents. It cools well with no problems. Again, the
headliner needs to be finished but certain components like the dome
light have already been wired in so it is ready to go.
This unique classic is not something you see everyday. It needs
very little to be completed but do to it needing work we are able
to offer it up at an unbeatable price.
It is all yours for $12,500.00!
