This Volkswagen has to be one of the nicest in North America.
The car is a three-owner garaged California/Arizona car. The frame-off restoration was comprehensive – Exterior/Interior/Mechanical. It looks and drives pretty much like new. No expense spared in two-year nut and bolt rotisserie restoration by Lenny Copp/West Coast Classic Restoration. Painted inside and out in its original buttery VW factory spec color Shantung Yellow and brought back to 1971 with the highest quality factory spec stock basketweave black interior. A lifetime of dry climate has kept the body and chassis rust-free with a gorgeous undercarriage and in pretty much pristine condition throughout.
Mechanical restoration included rebuilding of the1600cc dual port engine, clutch, transaxle, suspension, electrical and brake system. The chassis is rock-solid and clean, including the floor pans and battery tray. Optima battery. Tires have 3,000 miles and are 4 1/2 years old including the spare that's never touched the ground. The slotted wheels are correct VW.
The car lived in Palm Springs, CA with its original owner until 2017. I've owned it 5 years in Arizona where it's also always been garaged. In between it spent 4 years garaged in Durango, never once seeing inclement weather.
All lenses down to the license plate light and dome light are NOS OEM German Hella; clear and beautiful. All glass is properly logo'd original factory German VW Sekurit except the front windshield. Hella H4 halogen headlights are a major safety upgrade.
German door seals, and excellent paintwork even in the door jams. The paint is a knockout, the underside is fantastic, the engine bay is beautiful, as is the trunk up front. Clean wiring, everything tidy and in its proper place behind the wiring cover. The car has won multiple awards.
Interior is factory-fresh in appearance all the way through. The headliner is flawless proper pinpoint. Even the rear luggage area looks new. 25,000 miles on odometer, true mileage unknown.
It's stock. Unlike many VWs in the marketplace, this one has not been lowered, dash cut, or had other irreversible modifications. The drivability and appearance show off the quality of the build.
Original German Bilstein jack, a toolkit, very nice original owner's manual, and an Owners Workshop Manual come with the car. Further included is a great collection of related VW literature and advertisements.
Oil change and valve adjustment just done – ready to go anywhere.
This car is special. It runs, accelerates, shifts, stops and handles beautifully. The appearance and stance are very stock and proper. Acceleration, handling and highway capabilities are excellent.
Located in Phoenix, AZ, it's been garaged and pampered. This car is fun to drive, and you'll likely never find a nicer one.
