This custom-built 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo Targa Top is an all-out
performance machine, engineered with no compromises and finished in
a striking blue and black exterior that perfectly suits its
aggressive character. With 133,826 miles on the chassis and fewer
than 7,000 miles on the build, this Supra represents a meticulous
transformation from iconic '80s Japanese styling into a modern,
high-horsepower street and strip weapon.
At the heart of the car is a WAR 1200 fully built 2JZ-GTE short
block topped with a 1JZ-GTE VVT-i head, creating a formidable 1.5JZ
setup. Equipped with 264 cams and force-fed by a Garrett GTX3584RS
ball-bearing turbo, the result is a staggering 950 wheel
horsepower. Engine management is handled by an ECU Master EMU Black
system, professionally tuned by Lawrence Shipman to ensure the car
delivers its power reliably and aggressively. A custom 4-inch oval
exhaust completes the package, producing a sound to match the
performance.
Power is sent through a Grannas Racing T56 Magnum 6-speed manual
transmission paired with a McLeod RXT 1200 clutch, delivering a raw
and engaging driving experience. Out back, a Ford 8.8 rear
differential with 4.10 gears, reinforced rear subframe, custom
driveshaft, and upgraded axles ensure the drivetrain can handle the
immense output. Extended rear studs allow for proper fitment of
15-inch wheels wrapped in drag radials, with Weld wheels fitted at
all four corners for a purposeful, race-ready stance.
The interior has been fully gutted for weight reduction, with
original insulation replaced by Dynamat for improved noise and heat
control. A 6-point roll cage has been added for chassis rigidity
and safety, complemented by Sparco racing seats and a BTI
information screen. Underneath, all bushings have been upgraded to
silicone units, sharpening the car's response and durability under
extreme conditions.
Visually, this Supra stands apart with a carbon vented hood,
Autoextrude fog light holders fitted with Morimoto 70mm LED fog
lights, and a custom valve cover professionally painted to match
Ford's iconic Cobra Mystichrome. Every detail of this build
reflects a clear goal: to create a brutally fast, thoughtfully
engineered Supra that honors its legendary roots while pushing
performance into an entirely different league.
