Debuting in 1967 the Mercedes Benz 280SE Cabriolets are widely considered to be the last of the hand-built Mercedes-Benz production cars. Designed by Paul Bracq in 1961, the W111 signified a shift towards a new, clean, and refined styling language for Mercedes-Benz, moving away from the fin-tail design exemplified in the 1950's Ponton cars. The car features its original, matching numbers M130 engine, renowned for its power, reliability and smoothness thanks in large part due to Mercedes-Benz decision to utilize mechanical fuel injection over traditional carburetors, typical of the time. Of the 2600 total 280SE cabriolets variants produced, only 400 examples were made during the final two model years which combine the low-grille styling of the newly introduced V8 variant, with the robust 6-cylinder engine Mercedes-Benz had come to be known for, making it the rarest example of them all.
