This 1968 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 represents a rare opportunity to
acquire a properly executed, no-shortcuts frame-off restoration
project that is ready for final assembly and finishing. The heavy
lifting has already been completed by Car Cave and subcontracted to
respected specialist shops, with an emphasis on correct metalwork,
long-term durability, and mechanical integrity. Watch a walk around
video on YouTube at original 2F inline-six engine has been fully
rebuilt by Bo's Machine Shop in Augusta, returning the drivetrain
to factory-correct mechanical health. Prior to teardown, the FJ40
was a running and driving vehicle, and the transmission had
previously been rebuilt. The chassis was stripped completely to a
bare frame, then professionally sandblasted and powder coated by
Augusta Powder Coat and Metal Restoration using a full-size oven
capable of coating the entire frame as a single unit. An important
detail rarely achieved on home or partial restorations. All body
rust repair and metal correction was performed by Tootle
Fabrication in Waynesboro. The body was repaired entirely in metal
with zero filler used; every panel was reworked properly before
being sprayed in primer. This provides an exceptional foundation
for final paint, whether factory-correct or custom. The suspension
has been upgraded with a new Old Man Emu system, delivering
improved ride quality and drivability while maintaining the Land
Cruiser's legendary off-road capability. Both axles were fully
stripped, individually powder coated, and professionally rebuilt by
Driveline Service in Morrow.Included with the project are all glass
components, removed parts, and available receipts/documentation
detailing the work performed to date. Due to time constraints, the
project will not be completed, presenting the next owner with the
chance to finish a Land Cruiser the right way. The new owner can
start with an exceptionally solid, professionally restored
foundation.Approximately $45,000 has been invested in this build so
far. For the buyer seeking a high-quality FJ40 project with the
most labor-intensive and critical stages already completed, this is
a compelling and increasingly hard-to-find opportunity.
