The 1955 MG-TF 1500 was the final model in MG's long-running
T-Series line, produced from 1953 to 1955. The TF combined the
familiar MG TC/TD chassis with a sleeker, more modern design
featuring a lower hood, faired-in headlamps and a raked grill. The
result was a sportier, more refined appearance. Approximately 3,400
MG-TF 1500 models were produced.
This handsome 1955 MG-TF 1500 has been carefully returned to its
'50s glory - a thorough 'frame-off' restoration was completed in
2000. All major components were restored, rebuilt or replaced with
like-original parts. Every major system was addressed - drivetrain,
body, interior, electrical, brakes and suspension. The owner has a
file of receipts for much of the work done on the car.
Classic Exterior and Interior Features
The solid body was refinished in Porsche Red and is in exceptional
condition. Factory knock-off wire-wheels have recently been
balanced/detailed and mount correct Michelin radial tires. The
interior was refreshed to-original with black leather seating, wood
trim and a simple traditional dash. The owner is also including a
new set of carpets for the car. A full gauge package includes the
speedometer, tachometer, and temp/amp/oil pressure gauges. There is
a handsome white top, full tonneau cover and classic side
curtains.
1500cc MG-TF Engine and Drivetrain
Horsepower is provided by a totally rebuilt 1466cc OHV 4-cylinder
that was rated at 63hp. Factory SU carbs have been recently rebuilt
and carefully tuned providing smooth performance and response. The
engine is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and electrics are
12-volt.
Chassis and Suspension
The MG utilizes a hydraulic drum brakes on all four corners. Recent
service to the brake system includes new master cylinder, wheel
cylinders and hoses. The front suspension is an independent design
that utilizes coil springs, while the rear uses traditional leaf
springs in conjunction with lever-arm shocks. All suspension
components are in good condition and a new exhaust system has been
fitted.
The '55 MG-TF is cherished by collectors for its elegant blend of
vintage charm and mechanical simplicity. After over 23 years of
fun, our current owner is willing to let someone else enjoy the
ride - why not you?
