In the long and storied history of Chevy's halo car, each of the
Corvette's eight generations has been a wildly exciting event for
enthusiasts worldwide. One look at this 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L79
Convertible, and it's easy to see why the C3's debut instantly made
the bucket list of an entire generation just a little longer. Fully
repainted in its factory-correct (and gorgeous) Le Mans Blue
contrasted by its black cloth convertible top, this
numbers-matching L79 is a stunner anywhere it goes.
Inside, the black vinyl interior features the C3's signature
massive speedometer and tach front and center of the driver, just
beyond the three-spoke power-assisted steering wheel. A five-pod
auxiliary gauge cluster sits atop the center console and displays
fuel, water temperature, oil pressure, battery charge, and even an
analog clock for timekeeping. Air conditioning adds a nice touch
for when it is too hot to drop the top, while an upgraded Corvette
Vintage AM/FM/AUX head unit that also features Bluetooth
connectivity.
Under that signature front-hinged hood, we find a numbers-matching
327 cubic-inch V-8 that has been upgraded with a Holley Sniper EFI
TBI system mounted to a stock-style intake manifold, which means no
more fussy Quadrajet carburetor issues to deal with before you fire
it up and head out on the open road. Rated at an impressive 350
horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque from the factory, the L79
features higher compression and a more aggressive cam than the base
motor. Also upgraded is the Tremec TKX five-speed manual
transmission, which enables much quieter, more fuel-efficient
cruising than either of the original options.
