This 1970 Oldsmobile 442 is a genuine, VIN-decoded car that
represents the pinnacle of Oldsmobile muscle, enhanced with the
legendary W-30 package styling and performance cues. Fully restored
in 2012 and finished to a high standard, this 442 blends
authenticity, serious performance, and standout visual presence
into one exceptionally well-sorted muscle car that is ready to be
driven and enjoyed.
Under the hood is a rebuilt 455 V8 built by Don's Performance
Engines in Kenosha, Wisconsin, with receipts included as part of an
extensive restoration history. The engine is based on the correct
396021 F casting block used from 1968-1972 and has been rebuilt
with performance in mind while retaining a factory-correct
appearance. With a .030 overbore bringing displacement to 455 cubic
inches and a stout 10.2:1 compression ratio, this engine delivers
strong, immediate torque and classic big-block Oldsmobile power.
Internally, it features moly piston rings, a standard crankshaft,
ARP cylinder head bolts, a Cloyes double roller timing chain, and a
Bullet hydraulic roller camshaft producing an aggressive .656 lift
on both intake and exhaust. Comp Cams roller-tip rocker arms
complete the valvetrain, resulting in a powerful yet streetable
combination that runs exceptionally well.
Power is sent through a Super T-10 4-speed manual transmission
paired with a Centerforce clutch, giving this car the engaging,
driver-focused feel that enthusiasts crave. Out back is a 3.42 posi
rear axle that provides excellent acceleration while still allowing
comfortable cruising. Power steering and front disc brakes make the
car easy to handle and confidence-inspiring on the road, blending
classic muscle with modern drivability expectations.
Visually, the car is striking in its factory Code 55 Galleon Gold
paint, accented by black W-30-style stripes laid under clearcoat
for a clean, high-quality finish. The exterior restoration also
includes the correct W-30 ram air hood with hood pins and interior
hood lock, W-30 badging, red-painted inner fenders, dual sport
mirrors, rear spoiler, and a black vinyl top that completes the
iconic Oldsmobile muscle car look. Four brand-new BFGoodrich tires
have just been installed, giving the car a fresh, road-ready
stance.
The interior was completely redone during the restoration and
presents beautifully in black, featuring woodgrain interior
accents, power windows, a tilt steering wheel, and the correct
tic-tock tachometer. The original radio and 8-track player remain
in place for authenticity, while a discreet upgraded radio is
hidden in the glovebox for modern usability without compromising
the factory appearance. Every detail inside reflects the care taken
during the restoration to balance originality with comfort and
function.
This 442 also benefits from thoughtful mechanical upgrades,
including stainless steel brake lines by Inline Tube, ensuring
durability and reliability. A massive folder of restoration
receipts totaling over $40,000 documents the work performed and
underscores the level of investment and attention this car has
received over the years.
Overall, this is a real 1970 Oldsmobile 442 that has been
tastefully enhanced with W-30 equipment and restored to a high
standard, offering the sound, performance, and presence that made
these cars legends. It shows great overall, with minor flaws
visible in photos, and it runs strong, drives well, and is truly
ready to enjoy. This is a serious muscle car for someone who wants
authentic Oldsmobile power, classic four-speed excitement, and
unmistakable W-30 attitude in one beautifully restored package.
