This 1972 Buick Riviera is a wonderfully preserved 2-owner boattail
cruiser that is loaded with fantastic options and is extremely
well-documented. Buick first debuted its Riviera model on September
10, 1962, at the Las Vegas Riviera Hotel as a sort of counter to
Ford's popular top-of-the-line Thunderbird. As the years progressed
so did the Riviera's design and its features. On September 22,
1970, Buick announced perhaps its most radically distinctive
Riviera for the 1971 model year, complete with its iconic
"boattail" body lines ultimately appearing on dealer showroom
floors in early October. The 1972 Buick Riviera largely retained
the boat tail look in the '72 model year but with a few stylistic
updates. Up front, the forward raked styling remained but a new
"egg crate" cast grille replaced the plastic grille from the
previous year, mounted atop a beefier front bumper. The side panels
were also adorned with a new-look belt line trim molding that
accentuate the unique silhouette of the '72 Riviera. In the rear, a
new taillight assembly was implemented in '72 with 3 vertical bars
dividing the taillight lens. The other major update to the
Riviera's rear end treatment in 1972 was the removal of the "Full
Flo" ventilation louvers that reportedly caused the trunks to leak
in 1971. The ultra-luxurious interiors in 1972 were also left
largely unchanged from 1971, however 1972 notably marked the first
time that a 60/40 "Notch Back" front seat was made available to
Buick Riviera buyers. In total, only 33,728 Buick Rivieras were
produced in 1972 which makes this classic Buick quite a rare
classic car. This particular '72 Riviera comes to us from the
vehicle's second owner along with extensive documentation. Under
the massive hood on this 1972 Buick Riviera is a 455 cubic inch V8
engine fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that was said to have
produced 250 horsepower when new. Exhaust exits the 455 via a
throaty dual exhaust setup that generates a fantastic sound while
idling or driving down the road. The 455 V8 is backed by a
Turbo-Hydramatic 400 Automatic Transmission which makes this car an
enjoyable and easy classic to take to the car show or an afternoon
cruise. You'll also be able to keep the rubber to the pavement
since this Riviera comes equipped with an optional positraction
rear end. Supplementing the muscular powerplant propelling this '72
Riv down the road is an incredible array of features and options!
With Power Steering, squeezing this nearly 4,500 pound luxury
cruiser in and out of tight parking is a simple task as it's easily
accomplished with a single hand. Further helping you park this
Riviera is a driver's side chrome mirror that you can effortlessly
adjust with the interior remote. Additionally, you'll be able to
bring this full-size Buick to a complete stop much more comfortably
since it also comes equipped with Power Front Disc Brakes that
provide much better stopping power than manual drum brakes. This
1972 Riviera floats down the road riding on a set of P235/75R15
Whitewall Radial Tires mounted on a set of optional five-spoke
chrome sport (Rally) wheels, which means that you'll be able to
cruise more smoothly and you'll also be cruising with even more
style! The gorgeous body of this '72 Buick has been correctly
refinished in Vintage Red paint that completes the exterior look of
this luxurious Riv. The interior of this 1972 Buick Riviera is an
amazing time capsule! The 60/40 Notch Back seats and center arm
rest, along with the rear bench seat wear the correct Madrid-grain
black upholstery elevated with correct diamond-tufted stitching.
The woodgrain-trimmed door panels and steering wheel, black sun
visors, padded dash, and the brand new black carpeting and floor
mats, appear to be in wonderful condition and remain in the stock
configuration. Furthermore, the interior is absolutely loaded with
features! You'll be able to stay cool even on the hottest summer
days since this '72 Riviera is equipped with factory air
conditioning. Perhaps, you don't want to use the factory A/C and
just want a little breeze of fresh air; no problem, because you can
easily operate all 4 power windows with the simple flick of a
switch. The 3-spoke woodgrain trimmed steering wheel is also
mounted on a tilt column making it easy for anybody to get
comfortable behind the wheel. Even the rear passengers can lower
their own power windows and each side in the rear is also equipped
with a cigarette lighter and ashtray. Taking this Buick Riviera on
longer driving trips are made even more comfortable thanks to the
addition of cruise control which is a wonderful addition on any
classic car. The engine-turned instrument cluster sports a
high-class look and is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer and fuel
gauge, along with various indicator lights including lights for oil
pressure, engine temperature, battery charging, braking, and even a
seat belt warning light. You'll also be able to listen to all of
your tunes while cruising down the road since this Riviera comes
equipped with an optional AM/FM stereo with integrated 8-Track
player. The interior is finished off with seat belts, a slide-out
front ash-tray and cigarette lighter, and a locking glovebox.
